SUMMARY:

Kissing Eden Box Set

Get swept up in spring break fever in South Padre, Texas with Eden and Grey.

Set contains two full-length novels and one novella.

Kissing Eden
Have you ever thought of taking a vacation alone? I mean step on a plane, check into your hotel, and lie on the beach completely and utterly alone. No? Me either, but then right before senior spring break I got dumped.
Something about break ups makes you do things you didn’t want to do, and try things you didn’t know you were capable of.

That’s how I ended up at the Palm Palace.
That’s how I met Grey.
That’s how my spring break turned into the most unforgettable week of my life.

Loving Eden
Have you ever thought of packing up everything you own and moving halfway across the country?

I’m talking about leaving your entire life behind—friends, family, school—with no turning back. No? Me either, but that was before a week of spring break changed my life forever. Before I did something I never thought I’d do at twenty-two. Before I fell in love with Grey.

Sometimes happily ever after isn’t always what you think it will be.

A Very Grey Christmas
I was getting ready to spend the single most important holiday of the year alone. Completely and utterly alone.

That meant he wouldn’t be there Christmas Eve. No making Christmas cookies, or listening to my dad sing off-key while my mom bustled around wrapping last-minute gifts. No decorating the tree. No midnight Christmas kiss.

No waking up in Grey’s arms. We were actually going to spend our very first Christmas in different states.

That was until Grey gave me the most unexpected gift of my life.

EXCERPT from LOVING EDEN:

I kicked the back tire twice. It was already deflated. My frustration was pointless. Seriously, how could I have a flat tire? I stared at the rubber as it formed a pancake on the shoulder of the road. I didn’t see anything protruding from the mangled mess, but who knows what happens on these back Louisiana highways.
I pulled out my phone to call roadside assistance. There was no way I was driving another inch on that thing.
“Hi. Yes, this is Eden Brady. The trailer I rented from your company has a flat tire. Can you send someone to change it out?”
“Where are you, ma’am? And I need your rental ID number.”
I looked at the swampy canal on my left and the rows of sugar cane on my right. I had no idea where I was, only that my trip was on hold and I was completely stranded. I searched the canal waters warily, wondering if there might be critters in there I didn’t want to meet.
“There was a detour and I was rerouted.” I sighed. It wasn’t as if I memorized all the highway numbers. “Let me check my phone.” If the map on my phone could pinpoint where I was, I’d have something to share. “It looks like I’m on state road 101.” There were no mile markers or exits. Only swamps and sugar cane. I unfolded the rental slip from my pocket and read the numbers in the right-hand corner to her.
“Ok, I see your reservation in our system. It will be at least an hour before we can dispatch someone in your direction.” Her voice was crisp, not at all the comforting tone I needed right now.
I cringed. I had already garnered five catcalls from slow-rolling pickup trucks and I’d been standing here less than ten minutes.
“An hour? Isn’t there someone closer than that?”
“No, ma’am.” The operator was losing her patience with me. “He’ll be there as soon as he can.”
Before I could ask anything else, she hung up. I looked at my phone. Next time I moved, I would definitely go with another company. She didn’t need to get snippy. I was the one on the side of a Louisiana back road.
I trudged to the cab of the truck and climbed into the air-conditioned cabin. There was nothing cool about September in this part of the South.
My entire life was in the back of this truck. The bedroom set I bought when Taylor and I moved into our first apartment. Boxes of books that I couldn’t seem to part with and their bookcase. Suitcases of clothes. My first pair of cowgirl boots.
I flipped on the radio. Who does this? Who packs up her entire life and drives halfway across the country by herself? I do. Because part of me can’t seem to believe that I’m no longer coasting through life alone. I had to prove that I could take care of myself. To me, that meant making the move from Chapel Hill to South Padre Island one hundred percent alone. No parents. No friends. Above all options, that meant no Grey.
The strategy was to make the trip in two days. I had a route planned that included an overnight stay in Montgomery, Alabama. That part of the journey was smooth. I made it to the hotel before dark, checked in to my room, and called Grey to tell him I was safe and sound. The first half was over and I made it without a speck of help.
This morning, I hopped out of bed at six, ready to finish the last half of this travel feat. I had a hot cup of coffee, listened to the parking lot birds sing, and pulled out of Montgomery with a smile on my face. As Alabama faded in my rearview mirror, I felt the confidence surge through my veins. I was driving the biggest rental truck the company carried, with my car on a trailer behind it. It didn’t get much braver or bolder than this. I even learned how to pump diesel fuel at the truck stops. The trick was to wear gloves. I was quickly becoming a truck-driving expert.
I had to make this statement. Grey needed to know I could do things on my own. I needed to know that, just because I was in love, it didn’t mean I couldn’t make change happen in my life. I was still in control.
The second I saw the back tire on the trailer scorched with smoke and I pulled alongside the shoulder, all those proud certainties fizzled. This sucked.
I slouched in my seat and checked the mirror in case the service car had arrived. Nothing. Plenty of cars slowed to have a peek at my dilemma and me, but not a single car in that lineup included a man with a spare tire.
I thought about calling Grey, but if I told him where I was, he would get in his truck and start driving. No matter how many times I tried to convince him I could handle the situation and everything was under control, he would drive straight to me. That’s what Grey does. That’s why I fell in love with him.

Book Summary

Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins’ ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben’s the only man she’s ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn’t looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.

Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She’s his best friend’s little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he’s not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible…but will it lead to a connection of the heart?

EXCERPT
(which contains one of the best lines EVER. I mean EVER.)

His laughter, it didn’t really sound the smallest bit amused. “Christ. You’re done here.”

“Ah, no. I’m actually not. Now see, this is where we have a problem.” I folded my arms. Then unfolded them because like fuck I’d look defensive. He was the one in the wrong, not me. “You’re not prepared to take me, or my feelings, seriously. What you want is to hide away in Mr. Too Cool for Commitment land and just play with my affections when it suits you. Okay, I’ve accepted that. But none of that means it’s okay for you to come in here and act like you’re the boss of me. None of it.”

“That so?” he asked, leaning down so that we were almost nose to nose.

“That’s so, baby.” I play-punched him in the shoulder, which it should be noted, I barely came up to. Okay, so maybe the alcohol on a mostly empty stomach had made me slightly/lots braver/sillier. “So why don’t you take your little caveman jealous tantrum bullshit somewhere else. See, I do this funny thing I like to refer to as whatever the fuck I want. Understand?”

He just stared.

“And as pretty as you are with your beard and your muscles, you are too damn tricky and . . . complicated and shit for me.”

“I am?”

“Yes, you are. Are you finally seeing my point here?”

“You bet.”

“Excellent. So take your hotness elsewhere, kind sir. I want no part of it!” Huh. I had so told him. Drunken bravado was the best.

“Thanks for walking me back. I had fun.” My eyes shot to his.
Grey leaned his arm against the frame of the door. I felt my heart racing and the heated feeling in my belly. “Why don’t you invite me in?”
Willpower, Eden, be strong. He leaned down and brushed his lips on mine, taking his time to touch them fully. All I wanted to do was wrap my legs around him and let him carry me to the bed, but I untangled myself from his hold.
“I—uh—promised my mom I would call her. You know, nightly check-in.” It was an idiotic thing to say, but he had me tongue-tied in more ways than one.
He rocked back on his heels. “Oh, got it.” He shoved his hands in his pockets. The fiery magic lingering between us evaporated. “Good night.” He turned and walked away.
I let myself into my room. Spring break just got turned upside down on its head. Shit.

#TBT to one of my first book reviews ever

My parents visited me this past weekend and their new favorite thing to do is to bring a box of my stuff every time they come over. This time I received treasures from the 90’s.

My mother likes to tell the story about how my older brother would never nap unless I was in the room too. I’m sure that was a thrill for her. Anyway, she’d put me in there with a few books – he would nap and I would read. Even as a kid I chose reading over sleeping. Basically, life hasn’t changed.

You didn’t think I just started reviewing books recently, did you? Oh no. Before there were blogs, I was kicking it old school with manilla folders. Because I was the coolest 10 year old ever. Also, Ann M. Martin was boss. So here’s a little throw back, circa 1994, to when the Baby Sitters Club ruled my world.

How did I never get into illustrating? I’M SO TALENTED.

Author: Ann M. Martin

Book: California Girls

Book Summary:

20150325_190433

[I’ve taken care of some grammatical and spelling errors so I don’t scream]

Claudia was buying lottery tickets and Dawn, Stacy, Mallory, Jessi and Kristi thought she was a little loony. But when the jackpot reached 23 million dollars they all chipped in and bought seven tickets. They weren’t sure they would win. They had a sleepover. And that is how it all began. Dawn and everybody gathered around the television. When the announcer said the jack-o-lottery is 53, 27, 13, 8, 71 and 11. Dawn had five of the six winning numbers. They had won ten thousand dollars! They got one thousand four hundred and twenty-eight dollars and about fifty-seven cents each. Then they thought they would go to California to visit Dawn’s Dad and her brother, Jeff. (Dawn’s parents were divorced.) So they checked with their parents. And they checked with Dawn’s Dad and they were set. The Baby-Sitters Club was going to California!

Review:

20150325_190451

I liked this book a lot. It seemed really realistic. One girl got in a car accident too. So when they described it they made it seem real. They really paint a picture in your head when you read it. Like when they went to the beach it was like you were there! I felt like I was in the story. I recommend it to people who like adventure. Dawn, Stacy, Mary-Anne, Claudia, Mallory, Jessie and Kristi get into a lot of adventure. Happy Reading!

Hate Fuck – Part One (my review here)

tl;dr recommendation: suspense & sex? CHECK AND CHECK.

Book Summary:

It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Then it’s business as usual.

Cole:

I know I’ve fucked up, but I can fix this.

Hailey:

This can’t be fixed.

Longer Review:

Cole and Hailey are back and the pages are steaming up hotter than ever before. These two are electric when they’re together and you don’t want to miss the second installment of this series.

We pick up with Cole being arrested for a murder that we know he didn’t commit. Did he use Hailey as an alibi? Did he really just throw her into the middle of an investigation when he damn well knows that Hailey hates anything that has to do with the public eye? GOD COLE.

Bombs are dropped. Secrets are exposed. And the suspense will kill you. There’s a new investigation that leads Cole and the team to the Caribbean. Things are going so well between the two of them that Cole actually thinks that maybe – just maybe – he can have a normal relationship. That he will be allowed to love like any other human being. But of course that’s not allowed.

I love this series. I was inhaling each page like I had been starved for a month. While Cole is hard lines and tough glares, his firm exterior masks a sweet and loving core. Hailey yearns for the soft touches, the hard smacks, and anything that will end with his thick cock inside of her. As the stakes get higher and the secrets mount, Cole will do anything to keep Hailey safe, no matter what the cost.

The end of the book leaves us with a humongous cliffhanger that actually caused me to gasp out loud. BOOK THREE WHERE ARE YOU?! Love love love!

Excerpt

Sleeping on the couch is a bitch.

My back ached even after my morning run, even after a round of sit-ups and stretches—and a long, hot, lonely shower.

As I padded past the bedroom, a towel around my waist, I tried the knob once more.

Still locked.

I pressed my ear to the door and frowned.

Hannah had been bunkered in our bedroom all night and most of this morning. It was nearly noon. The AC ticked on and I sighed, roaming back to the kitchen.

“I am definitely in the doghouse,” I muttered to Laurence.

A notepad on the counter contained my list for the day.

FIX SHIT

–        Talk about things w/Hannah (money, therapy, Chrissy)

–        Date (picnic or dinner)

I peeled off the note and wrote another.

Hannah baby, please come out. You can’t stay in there forever. I’m sorry. I love you. I need clothes. XO

I knocked gently on the bedroom door before slipping the note beneath it. Then I retreated to the TV room.

Several minutes later, I heard the door squeak open and clap shut.

I returned to find it locked, a pair of my socks folded on the floor beside a note.

Here you go.

Grinning, I turned over her note and wrote another.

Where am I supposed to wear these? Or am I supposed to use them for something else? Take pity on a half-naked man. It’s getting chilly out here.

I flicked my reply under the door, then sat on the floor and waited. Soon I heard Hannah rustling in the bedroom. The door opened a crack and a T-shirt flew out.

She slammed it shut quickly.

“Goddamn it, Hannah.”

I pulled on the T-shirt and shot another note under the door.

Is this your way of saying you want to see my dick? So coy . . .

A moment later, the door opened and a pair of sweatpants hit me in the face.

Slam!—click.

“Hannah!” I lunged against the door. “Baby bird?”

No reply.

God, women are fucking mysterious.

Excerpt:

“You didn’t ask for her number.” She scowls and pokes her finger into my chest. I look down at it, then glance up at her with a raised brow.

“You just assaulted an officer.”

“I did?” She swallows hard.

“Yes. I might have to arrest you.”

“With handcuffs?” She smiles gleefully, clearly excited at the thought.

“Would you like me to arrest you with handcuffs?”

“Hell to the yes!”

“Kate?” There’s suddenly a very tall, very irritated man standing behind the fiery redhead, staring daggers into me. I can’t help but laugh.

“I’m talking to the hot Asher,” she says, not turning to look at him. “I assaulted him, and he’s a cop, and he’s going to put me in handcuffs.”

“No, I don’t believe he will.”

I laugh again. “There’s nothing going on here, man.”

“Come see Lila!” Kate takes my hand, pulling me from my stool to the table behind us. Most of the women have cleared out, leaving just a few, including the sexy as fuck woman I met on the plane yesterday. “Where did everyone go?”

“Declan took them home,” Lila replies, and her hand stops midway between the table and her lips, holding her drink. Her violet eyes widen when she sees me. “Hi.”

“We meet again.” I sit next to her, my fingers itching to plunge in her dark hair and brush it over her shoulder. “How are you, Lila?”

“Fine.” She clears her throat and smiles at me. “I didn’t think I’d ever see you again.”

“A happy coincidence,” I reply softly. “You look beautiful.”

And she does. Her eyes are a bit glassy from the alcohol, her cheeks just a little flushed. Her hair is straight and falls down her back and over her slim shoulders. Before I can ask her questions about her trip here, or anything about her, we are soon pulled into the conversation with the others at the table. But when Kate asks Lila if she’s ready to go, I’m shocked when Lila responds with, “I’m gonna have Asher take me home.”

Easy with You Teaser 2

About EASY WITH YOU:

Nothing has ever come easy for Lila Bailey. She’s fought for every good thing in her life during every day of her thirty-one years. Aside from that one night with an impossible to deny stranger a year ago, Lila is the epitome of responsible.

Steadfast. Strong.

She’s pulled herself out of the train wreck of her childhood, proud to be a professor at Tulane University and laying down roots in a city she’s grown to love. But when some of her female students are viciously murdered, Lila’s shaken to the core and unsure of whom she can trust in New Orleans. When the police detective assigned to the murder case comes to investigate, she’s even more surprised to find herself staring into the eyes of the man that made her toes curl last year.

In an attempt to move on from the tragic loss of his wife, Asher Smith moved his daughter and himself to a new city, ready for a fresh start. A damn fine police lieutenant, but new to the New Orleans force, Asher has a lot to prove to his colleagues and himself.

With a murderer terrorizing the Tulane University campus, Asher finds himself toe-to-toe with the one woman that haunts his dreams. His hands, his lips, his body know her as intimately as he’s ever known anyone. As he learns her mind and heart as well, Asher wants nothing more than to keep her safe, in his bed, and in his and his daughter’s lives for the long haul.

But when Lila becomes the target, can Asher save her in time, or will he lose another woman he loves?

A Message from Kristen Proby:

Dear readers,

As you know, the With Me In Seattle series came to a close earlier this month with the eighth and final installment, FOREVER WITH ME. I’ve been steadfast in my decision that there would be no further stories from the series, no spin-offs, nothing more. In my mind, it was complete.

And I still feel that the Montgomery/Williams families are complete, and I maintain that I’m happy with their happy-ever-afters.

But, I’ve also heard you when you’ve said that Asher, Matt Montgomery’s partner in TIED WITH ME, deserves to have a happily ever after for himself and his daughter Casey. So, when the lovely ladies from 1001 Dark Nights asked me to participate in their wonderful project, I thought long and hard about whose story it should be about. Seattle is finished, and I’ve moved on to New Orleans for the new Boudreaux Series… And then it occurred to me: why not do both, and offer a companion novella to each of the series?

And so, because you, the reader, has been so insistent that you want to see Asher and Casey find their perfect person, I’m excited to introduce you to EASY WITH YOU. I think you’re going to love Asher and Lila’s love story this spring…

Happy Reading,

Kristen Proby

Review: Idle Bloom by Jewel E. Ann

Author: Jewel E. Ann

Book: Idle Bloom

tl;dr recommendation: I was quickly obsessed and consumed. #MUSTREAD

Book Summary:

“What lies beneath my veiled perfection is the ugly truth—my truth, my reality, my destiny.”

Vivian Graham has an acceptance letter into Harvard, a badass tattoo, loyal friends, ties to marijuana, a penchant for Dunkin’ Donuts, and her pesky V-card.

Everyday she takes the Red Line to her job at The Green Pot in Boston while her friends enter the coveted, black iron gates to higher learning. The ramifications from a tragic accident have put her life on hold while time marches on for everyone around her.

After graduating from Harvard Law, Boston native, Oliver Konrad, moves to Portland to start his career and his life. Three years later, after a horrific discovery, he returns home to trade in his three-piece suit for leather work boots and his suburban home for a condo in Cambridge.

All he brought back to the East Coast was an aversion to pillows and secrets he keeps hidden behind a mysterious locked door. Oliver’s days are predictable and his nights are lonely until he meets Vivian on the subway. Her long raven hair, green eyes, and mile-long legs are achingly sexy, but the way she “innocently” fingers and licks her Boston Kreme doughnut can only be described in two words—complete torture.

When their paths cross at every turn, laughter is abundant, friendship is easy, and love is unintentional. However, their future seems improbable.

Longer Review:

I am in love with this book, it’s as simple as that. The love between Oliver & Vivian is organic, fresh and inspiring. This one consumed me.

I know you’re thinking, ohhhh, it’s another book about a virgin. But really, it’s not. While that might be part of who Viv is, it most definitely does not define her. I’d say her more defining characteristics are her impeccable sass, her penchant for eating donuts in a way that will make a man hard in 2 seconds flat, her geeky intellectual ways, and her ability to show her endless love for Oli. She is seriously awesome. The only time she has a holy-fuck-let’s-break-everything-in-sight freakout, it’s majorly called for. Basically, you’ll love her.

Oli. OHMYOLI. You know something has happened when he was in Portland since you know, he’s no longer practicing law (MY FUCKING HERO), he hasn’t had sex in three years, and he’s working with his brother’s landscaping business. However, you have no idea what that is. It will grate on you. It will consume you. But I promise, you find out and your heart will fracture.

For two people who are both not planning on dating, they each fail to stick to their plans. There’s something about them together that works so perfectly. Both of them are damaged in ways that they can’t change, but they also accept each other without any reservations. No matter what. No take backs. It’s unsurprising that after Viv drops her V card she turns into a horny teenager. I mean, Oli is fucking hot. The two of them…oh god. These are some of the most arousing scenes I have ever EVER fucking read. I mean, which do we pick? The intellectual glasses-and-dress-shirt scene? Or the boots-only fantasy? or the thanksgiving day phone sex? or the office-bad-client-afternoon-quickie? I need to stop typing, I’m getting a little warm.

Nevertheless, when Oli is forced to face his problems head on, both he and Viv attempt to keep themselves together for the short-term so that they can be together for the long-term. I could feel the connection between them in my bones. Every time they tell each other how they feel they cut straight through the bullshit. This book has everything I look for in a romance novel and more. In case you couldn’t tell, I’m a little bit in love with Jewel E. Ann. *buys all of her books*
