Review: Caught Up in the Touch by Laura Trentham

Author: Laura Trentham

Book:  Caught Up in the Touch

tl;dr recommendation: Logan is an undeniably sweet AND savory addition to your book boyfriend shelf. I could savor him all night…4.25 stars!

Book Summary:

Jessica Montgomery has always lived by three simple rules: stay calm, stay professional, stay in control. Working tirelessly to make it into the executive ranks of her family’s business, her dream job of CFO is within reach–if she can convince one stubborn and sexy Alabama restaurateur to take her offer and manage Montgomery Industries flagship restaurant in Atlanta.

On the surface Logan Wilde is all good-old-boy charm and humor, but he can’t seem to outrun the hell-raising reputation of his high school years. Although he has thought about leaving his hometown in Falcon Alabama, he has grown to love the town, his restaurant, and his part-time gig coaching the football team.

Jessica estimates it will take a week tops to get Logan Wilde’s signature on her generous offer, but their first meeting is anything but professional. Logan shreds Jessica’s control and unleashes a passion she didn’t know existed even as a deeper connection between them takes root. When her family’s manipulations threaten to tear them apart, Jessica has to decide whether her dream is really the CFO job or the man who has unselfishly offered his love.

Longer Review:

If you’re In the mood for a small town romance that will give you massive feels, then this book will hit the spot. Laura knows how to stir the pot, wreaking a little good natured havoc in her characters’ lives. While this is part of a football series, Logan isn’t just a football coach. He’s a hot as hell chef who will definitely make your mouth water. When Jessica rolls into town with a resting bitch face and legs for days, Logan knows he’s in trouble.

Jessica is a pretty little thing who might be a city girl on the outside, but she shows us in this book that she’s not afraid to let her country girl out. I love traditional contemporary romance books like this that allow me to just sit back and enjoy the story. The heat between Jessica and Logan threatens to boil over with every passing glance, and I was so giddy with excitement when they finally gave in to their desires for one another.

Jessica is known as a barracuda in the business world, but I loved how Logan slices through her walls and releashes her vulnerabilities. Logan has never been much for relationships, but they fit so perfectly together that even he recognizes that this is something different than his usual fare. [OHMYGOD I can’t stop the puns. seriously, they’re just writing themselves now]. I found the cute nicknames and small town charm completely endearing. I happily fell into their world and was smiling wildly when I burst free.

This is the second in the series, but it’s a standalone. While you don’t need to read the first one, those characters are in this book briefly and it was really nice to catch up with them a bit as well. Logan is an undeniably sweet AND savory addition to your book boyfriend shelf. I could savor him all night…4.25 stars!

Review: The Scene, parts 1&2 by Roxy Sloane

Book: The Scene – Part 1

tl;dr recommendation: a quick and delicious story that will make your temperature rise – 5 stars!

Part 1 Summary:

Miami. The city of sex, sin — and secrets.

I came here with one mission: solve the mystery behind my brother’s death.
Somebody’s got answers.
Somewhere, I’ll find what I’m looking for.

I didn’t bet on Xavier. He’s my way into the scene — and my biggest threat.
I should keep my distance, but I can’t stay away.

I’m playing with fire, and I just pray I don’t get burned.

Longer Review:

Roxy is The Queen of Fast Fucks and she shows us why she reigns supreme in The Scene. If you’re new to the serial novella circuit, get in here and learn from the master.

Overflowing with dirty talk, skinny dipping and decadence, The Scene is a quick and delicious story that will make your temperature rise.

Would you like some suspense with your mind-blowing orgasms? Then you need to get in touch with The Scene and let Xavier work his magic fingers and tongue while traveling through the potential underbelly of a high class drug ring searching for the mystery of Nikki’s brother’s death.

Nikki isn’t prepared for the rush that was in store for her when she moved to Miami. While she’s trying to find out what happened to her brother she’s swept away by Xavier, a billionaire-type alleged playboy who has decided that she’s the one he wants.

I totally wasn’t expecting that cliffhanger to happen in this book….so now I’m sort of at a loss as to how the story will turn. THIS IS A GOOD THING. I’m now ready for anything… please!

Book: The Scene – Part 2

tl;dr recommendation: hard, rough and fucking filthy – this angsty installment will leave you right on the edge. 4.5 stars!

Part 2 Summary:

The one man I can’t stay away from is the man I swore to destroy.

I came to Miami determined to reveal the truth behind my brother’s death. Now I’ve discovered that Xavier is the crime king running this city — and I’m going to take him down – if I can keep my hands off him long enough to think straight.

I’m in over my head now, but there’s no going back.

Longer Review:

The second installment of this fiery hot series is an angsty little bugger. While Nikki and Xavier continue to light Miami on fire with every touch, Nikki carries around bags of emotional ice that she has at the ready, prepared to kill every mood. Nikki isn’t sure what to believe about Xavier…but she also doesn’t ask him. *smh*

Nikki also carries around a ‘jump to conclusions’ mat everywhere she goes. With the least bit of evidence she has already decided that Xavier is a likely a Drug King and killed her brother. EXCUSEY WHAT?! I could have killed her. Hailey gets big high fives from me for being the voice of reason, forcing Nikki to word vomit her weak rationale and pointing out that maybe, just maybe things are what they seem and not what Nikki is making up. In her head. All the points to Hailey!

Xavier is once again a delicious specimen of a man who has (so far) done nothing to make me question his fuckability or desirability as my current book boyfriend. He finger fucks like it’s his job (OH. MAYBE THAT’S WHAT HE DOES FOR A LIVING!) and can incite a stampede of women in heels and short dresses everywhere he goes. He also sends the most fantastic gifts. Nikki, darling, I refuse to question his career aspirations and am more than happy to take him off your hands…

There’s so much sexual tension in this book in addition to the angst that I’m really happy that my kindle doesn’t also double as an etch-a-sketch. I hope you’re in the mood for hard, rough and filthy fucking, because this installment grants you access to one of the dirtiest and hottest sex scenes I’ve read in a long time. THANK YOU, ROXY!

Overall, Part 2 of The Scene gets you all riled up and leaves you (of course) WANTING MORE.  book3!book3!

The time for the showdown with the Goddess Eva has finally arrived. Despite all we’ve gone through, Paige and I are ill-prepared for the fight.

I have no choice but to form an uneasy alliance with the one who brought about Eva’s original downfall in order to pull Paige from Eva’s clutches. Little do I know that Eva has revealed a secret that has Paige on her heels. Nothing is as it seems, and even those we trust the most hide truths that threaten to rip us apart.

I’m fighting to leave the shadows of my past behind while Paige is overwhelmed by hers. Prophesies told are starting to come true, and Paige and I stand at the epicenter of them all.

Due to strong language and mature situations, this story might not be suitable for younger readers.

Longer Review:

I’m convinced that Ivy is trying to kill me slowly. AHHHHHH! *shakes fist*

THIS IS YOUR PNR SERIAL ADDICTION. I’m totally an Ivy junkie.

You might be thinking ‘Heather, really?! You’re telling me to start reading a ten-part serial novella paranormal series?!’

Answer: Yes, I fucking am. & it’s going to be more than ten parts, sooooo, just deal with it.

If you haven’t yet started this series, go grab some snacks, a drink [or twelve], and just schedule yourself a night/day to binge-read your face off. Ivy does not disappoint. She gives you romance, instalove that doesn’t feel like instalove, hot sex, a shit ton of suspense and a world that coexists with our own. This is a series that will keep you guessing and will have you clutching your chest and panting for breath. Ivy makes living in a world of angels and demons seem normal and I’m always amazed at how quickly and immediately I get sucked back into this story.

Speaking of the story, we catch back up with Riley and Paige as they are caught in the fight of their lives. Their love has solidified but we don’t know if it will be enough to keep Eva from possessing Paige’s body. GOOD GOD THE SUSPENSE! Riley is determined not to let the possession take place, but when he enters Paige’s mind determined not to fail, truths are exposed that have Paige making rash decisions that could affect everyone involved for eternity.

Paige and Riley are once again backed into a seemingly insurmountable corner from which I don’t see an escape – but I know Ivy has something at the ready to allow them to duck and run. I’m crossing my fingers for the happy ending that these two so desperately deserve. The cliffhanger here has me anxious and on edge, as per usual…and I’m waiting patiently for lucky number 11 – eeeek! GET INTO THIS, BITCHES. 5 stars!

Now, he has a mate, a mysterious child, perilous old enemies, and enough adventure to send them all running for their lives.

A vampirelike soul demon succubus?! Oh sweet fuck, I am totally in. I’m not always drawn to paranormal romance, but this book absolutely did it for me. It’s like an adult twist on Twilight and I loved every second. Armen is not only completely fuckable but he’s also easy to fall in love with. From the second that he catches the sweet scent of his Soul Tie, Ariella, he knows that no other woman will ever satisfy him. However, things are complicated by the fact that he’s there to protect her and her daughter, Katie, from the evil demons that are searching for her.

Ariella’s taken off guard when she first locks eyes with Armen. Her body betrays her by compelling her to draw him closer while her mind is blaring alarms that this is too soon and too fast. Her ex-husband already destroyed her self worth and she is damned if she’s going to let down her walls again for the same thing to happen. Once bitten, twice shy and all that. [hehe].

But the fight within her is short lived. Armen is dedicated to show Ariella that he’s not only the man for her right now, but also forever. He could use his compulsion to seduce her, but he refuses to do so – thus making me fall for him even more. There’s a ton of danger as demons are lurking around ever corner, and an enormous about of sexual tension that bristles in every scene.

This book is a hot and delicious romance full of fangs, demons, angels and a whole lot of sex. KD ties up the loose ends necessary to give you a feeling of completion in this book, but also leaves some questions for other characters, which makes me really excited to see how the storyline will play out. If you’re in the mood to be swept away to another world while staying in this one, Soul Tie Seduction will more than satisfy your craving. 4.5 stars!

A large piece of her soul rested with him in that bed, a part that would have vanished forever had his prognosis taken a horrible turn. A few weeks ago, she would have never allowed herself to fall this fast for someone. She would have blamed her intense devotion on nothing more than compassion for another human being’s suffering, but despair this rampant went well beyond such a simple explanation. Somehow, Armen Jettison had found the door she’d sealed shut with mistrust and apprehension and ripped the damn thing off its hinges. Once content living a life of loneliness, she now found herself wondering—what if?

What if she accepted this man into her life?

What if she opened her heart to him?

What if she dared to take a risk?

Yes, she lusted for him, desired him with everything in her, his hands on her body, his lips on her skin. Ariella didn’t have an issue accepting Armen into her body. In fact, she wanted him rock hard and buried to the hilt deep inside her. She groaned. Pain riddled her body as if she lived through a ten-car pileup, and still she wanted him to jump out of that bed and take her.

Nope, her sexual desire for him wasn’t up for question. Her issue was the growing adoration warming her very soul, and at the same time, making her shiver with the cold reality that sex wouldn’t be enough.

She wanted more, and it scared her to death.

She covered her face with her hands, shaking her head. The possibility of never seeing Armen again, of walking away from the one man who held her child as his own, who faced a blade twice so she may live, left her with a frosty ache in her chest.

My life is music. I play it, I live it, I breathe it. Next week, I start my dream job playing cello with the Boston Symphony. My father might finally be proud of me, and I… well, I’ll have my music.

Then I met Dylan—tattooed, badass, always-hard Dylan. He’s nothing like anyone I’ve ever been with before. Just one night can’t hurt me.

But sometimes when you play with fire, you get burned.

I sneak another peek and bingo! I finally see his face.

God, his face…

Now that I see it, I’m not sure I can ever look away. It’s striking. Stunning. Strangely beautiful.

His eyes are inset, his jaw and nose strong. And his mouth—perfect, his lips full but not girly. They’re sin and sex, yet, as he smirks at something on his phone, also quite boyish. It’s the kind of mouth I could stare at for hours, watching the way it shapes words and slides into smiles. The kind of mouth that feels good to kiss and better to suck and my, oh, my, I bet he sucks down there so right I wouldn’t need to grab a vibrator after.

Where the hell did that come from? I’m not a prude, but having dirty thoughts about men in bars is really not my style.

It’s a sign of stress, that’s all. In my mind, Beautiful Tattooed Boy is the personification of chance encounters and not having a plan. It’s the other road—the road I didn’t take. Correction—wouldn’t take. He’s nice to look at, but other than that, we’d probably clash. Big time. I’m only attracted to him because, although I’m happy with my choices and my plans, I can’t help being curious about what else might have been.

Yeah. That’s totally it.

But what if I’m more than curious?

Review: Hard by Eve Jagger

Author: Eve Jagger

Book: Hard

tl;dr recommendation: HARD is full of surprises, a bit of suspense and a hell of a lot of sex. #MustRead

Book Summary:

Strong. Arrogant. Hard.
Ryder Cole is the King of Atlanta’s nightlife — and the one man who can erase my past.

I’m running from secrets that could destroy me and there’s no room in my life for someone like him: too damn cocky, and sexy as hell. I should keep my distance, but smart goes out the window the minute he looks my way. And when he puts his hands on me … A girl could forget her own name.

But what happens when the past catches up with me, and all the things I’m hiding from tear our lives apart again? I can’t keep running forever, and Ryder always wins.

He’s not the kind of guy to let me go gently, Ryder will give it to me Hard.

Longer Review:

Hard is GREAT. I mean, really fucking great. Five Stars Great – #MUSTREAD GREAT. I was instantly drawn into the world of the sexy bastards and I never want to leave. This is fantastic writing that’s full of banter, innuendo, & delicious alpha men. It’s my favorite combination of all things: I am in book heaven.

Those sexy bastards swept me away with their hard exteriors, tattoos and big hearts. Eve drew me in with her playful and witty writing style that was like that perfect glass of water when you’re dying of thirst. I’m blown away that this is Eve’s debut novel and I’m so excited to see what’s next. Hard is so good (isn’t it always?) but really – the novel is too.

When Ryder goes to collect a debt, he doesn’t mess around. He hasn’t made his money by lying low and being soft, so when Jamie, Cassie’s brother, fails to pay the $10,000 debt that he’s racked up betting at Ryder’s bare knuckle fight nights, Ryder’s going to collect. However, when Cassie’s the one in Jamie’s bed, Ryder’s the one that’s surprised. Cassie knocks him out with her sassy mouth and tight body…and that’s just the beginning.

Cassie’s back from a two year stint in Europe and she’s desperately trying to make a new start in her life. Being woken up in the middle of the night by sexy as fuck Ryder and being caught up in trying to fix her baby brother’s wayward life wasn’t exactly what she envisioned for her homecoming, but you know, life happens. Cassie’s voice was the perfect blend of hard ass, snark and seductress. She’s not only witty, she’s also intellectually smart. Total Package. #Boom. LOVED HER. Of course, she’s also running away from something…someone…but she’s keeping those secrets locked up tight.

HARD is full of surprises, a bit of suspense and a hell of a lot of sex. Ryder is so goddamn perfect – this big, deliciously sexy man who can make a man go to his knees with just a look can’t stop himself from falling to his knees when it comes to Cassie. OH, and he’s on his knees A LOT. (Thanks, Eve). The dirty talk had me slipping right off my chair and I could practically hear Ryder growling in my ear. *swoon*

Give this a go. Now. For fucks’ sake. LOVED.

When handsome California surf god Lincoln Savage suddenly rolls into Ocean Beach like a rogue wave, shy beauty Simone Bianchi’s foundation is shaken. No longer under the thumb of her domineering father, she’s made a simple quiet life for herself and her fluffy fourteen pound Havanese pup running a surf shop in her hometown of OB. Long ago she gave up her dreams for a future with Linc.

But now the notorious lead singer of the Dirt Dogs has returned, and Simone is reluctant to admit that she’s still vulnerable to his killer dimpled smile and easy charm. She finds that although she’s stowed away the mementos, it hasn’t been as easy to erase the memories of their epic summer love.

It seems he hasn’t forgotten, either.

Is the recording contract he’s offering merely a pretense?

Or does he have something more in mind?

Does he really believe that they can just pick up where they left off, despite all the bad luck and heartache?

And is she willing to risk everything again for one last chance at love?

The love in this book is intense, taking you through soaring highs and crumbling lows.

You need to know that most of this story occurs in a flashback. I wasn’t totally prepared for that turn of events, so it took me a little offguard. Regardless, the story flows well and I really enjoyed the characters. Linc’s an up and coming surfer and seeming playboy, while Simone is a good kid who is really just trying to keep her head down and get through college without pissing off her dad.

From the moment that they first meet there’s a charge in the air. They’re pulled to one another like the current in the ocean – but will they get swept away or pulled under?

I could have killed Linc for about half of this book…and there was such an impending doom and dark cloud covering the flashback I had to read through my fingers. I felt that I couldn’t totally enjoy all of the really good moments because as the reader you know it’s going to turn to shit. Of course, the sky clears, letting you breathe deeply after what feels like eternity, leaving you feeling exhausted and complete. *swoon*

There’s a tinge of a love triangle, but not enough for me to really call it one, so we’re good there. I loved Adult Linc about twelve million times more than teenage Linc. He’s possessive and all alpha male, but ready to throw his heart and pride on the line (and anything else required) to get Simone back for good. YES YES YES. As Simone struggles with how to respond to Linc’s reinsertion into her life, I could totally feel her pain. Fifteen years is a long time to pine for a lost love, and she’s never truly dealt with the pain of losing him. The memories crash over her as she yearns to change the tide of her future…LOVED the ending!

Get ready for some sexy scenes, broken hearts, and kisses that will tilt your world. This is a beautiful second chance love story full of broken promises but a lot of love. 4.25 stars!

“Dammit, Mona.” I leaned in closer inhaling her sweet scent and nearly brought to my knees with desire. I wanted to have her. Right here. Right now. I had to curl my fingers into fists to keep from reaching out, grabbing her and reminding her how it used to be between us. Her lids lowered and her breathing turned ragged. Was she remembering, too, or trying to forget?

“Go away, Linc.” Apparently the latter.

“Maybe I can’t,” I admitted my voice raspy with stripped down need. “Maybe I don’t want to.”

“Don’t.” She closed her eyes and her chin dropped. “Don’t do this to me.” She wet her lips. They visibly trembled. Even though I knew I had upset her I still wanted to kiss them. “I’m not one of your groupies easily flattered by your bullshit. The fact that you’re a big rock star doesn’t impress me. I know who you really are Lincoln Savage. I’ve seen you at your best and I’ve survived you at your worst. So don’t think you can come here and play games with me.”

Review: Infinite Dolls by Emalynne Wilder

Author: Emalynne Wilder

Book: Infinite Dolls

tl;dr recommendation: grab your tissues, this NA novel is an completely beautiful cryfest!

Book Summary:

My heart still beats despite its quietness. It dreams. It wonders. And most dangerous of all, it hopes.
Everly Brighton’s expected to die before her twenty-first birthday, at the hands of a rare medical condition. Under the watchful eye of her father more is being stolen from her than years. Everly longs for connection and freedom she has never been allowed due to her dad’s controlling routine. Time ticking away she begins to defy his rules and make up her own. One star-crossed meeting grants Everly her greatest desire when she befriends Callum Trovatto, a grief-stricken med student needful of his own blissful upswing in the wake of his mother’s death.

INFINITE DOLLS is a story of grief, faith, and how the power of deep-rooted love encourages living in the preciousness of Now.

Longer Review:

4 stars!

Well, this is a cryfest. There is nothing traditional or usual about this impassioned love story. Which makes sense as there is nothing usual about Everly Anne’s condition or Callum’s love for her. Callum’s a med student who, while following in his father’s medical footsteps, has no desire to follow in his father’s drunken footsteps. He’s trying to blaze his own path and isn’t focused on anything other than studying. However, when the new assignment is to interview Everly to attempt to diagnose her, all of his logic disappears with the first glance into her eyes.

There’s obviously something physically wrong with Everly, but even though Callum’s grade – and future – depends on finding out what that something is, he’d rather learn about Everly herself. The relationship between the two takes a completely circuitous route, but it’s beautiful, pure and so heartfelt that I was perfectly fine with taking the long road to get there.

The couple finds themselves up against so many obstacles – Everly’s father, her condition, Callum’s schooling – but neither of them can rid themselves of the intense connection that they feel for each other. It’s like their hearts were meant to collide to form a whole one – beating wildly everytime they’re together.

This story is emotionally gutting but sweetly beautiful. Callum’s love for Everly Anne never wavers and never fades. He tailors the love to her needs and in the process he pushes aside his own wants, needs and future. I felt honored to take the journey with them both and let my tears flow freely. This isn’t the typical happily-ever-after feel good romance, but it’s a real romance that shows heartbreak, loss and utter joy.

This is book 3 in a 4 part series. It is a spin-off of the Famous Series. These can be read as standalones.

“I need a drink,” I mutter to no one in particular.

Adam Reynolds must hear me complaining because he places what I assume is a Jack and Coke in my empty hand.

“Here you go, mate.” He grins and I can’t help but smile back. The man’s enthusiasm is infectious.

Gavin, the sourpuss, is currently glaring at me from across the room. So much for us being an item. In the car, Gavin’s excitement at pretending to be boyfriends to lure out his stalker and the accompanying smile he gave had me sprouting questionable wood for most of the drive. Now he’s reverted right back to being a little shit. Hot and cold.

“Thanks, but I’m working—”

“I’ll take it, honey.” Gavin swoops in, steals the glass, and downs half of it before I can blink. I stand there, paralyzed, while I watch his pink lips caress the edge of the glass. “Thanks, dear,” he snaps, pulling me from my gawking. Before I can reply he turns and stomps off to pout somewhere.

I’m annoyed at his attitude and the distance he’s kept between us tonight. What. The. Hell. No way is he going to up and disappear on me at another party. Especially after we paraded ourrelationship in front of the media to lure his stalker out of the shadows.

“Sorry guys,” I apologize to Adam and his wife, Ellie. I was happy to finally meet them both after everything Gemma had told me about the couple when I gave her Adam’s phone number last year. Now I have to cut our conversation short because of yet another Gavin Walker temper tantrum.

Weaving through the crowd at the club, I follow Gavin to the back hallway that houses the kitchen and bathrooms. Once I’m out of sight of the other guests, I grab a shocked Gavin’s upper arm and shove him into the men’s room.

“Hey! Quit being an asshole!” Gavin wrenches out of my grip, turning to sneer. “I’ll put you on your knees again, Hale!”

The thought of being on my knees in front of Gavin sends a flush of heat up my body. I can feel the fire in my cheeks and by the way Gavin’s eyes widen, I’m betting he can see it too.

“I’m not the one behaving like a brat!” I growl in a low voice. Ducking, I check to make sure no one else is in the stalls. Once I’ve made sure it’s clear, I lock the bathroom door.

“Brat?” Gavin shouts. “I’m a brat?”

“Yes, you’re a brat. Ever since we had our picture taken outside, you’ve been unbearable to be around!”

“You’re not the one whose entire life was just turned upside down out there!” he yells.

I step closer, more furious than I’ve ever been. “Are you kidding me? You are so unbelievably self-centered!” Those damn hypnotizing full lips fall open in shock. “I was just outed too, and I’m not even fucking gay!”

Without thinking, I grab either side of his head, digging my fingers into that thick, blonde hair, and crush my mouth over his.

And it’s the hottest kiss of my life.

Just, damn.

Most people know Hollywood heartthrob, Ryan Summer, as Ryan, no last name required. But once upon a time, he was just Summer to Carrie Ann—before a decade of blockbuster hits skyrocketed his success into superstardom.

Summer was smart, gorgeous, and cocky as hell. Nothing was out of his reach. Not even Carrie Ann Lowell. He was the love of her life—until he shattered her heart. Their breakup left more than a profound rift in her soul. It crushed her.

When Carrie Ann’s college flame forces his way back into her life, his dirty-talking, bold self-assurance re-ignites a passion she thought had long since been extinguished. Carrie Ann didn’t believe in second chances.

Not even for him.

No matter how deliciously tempting.

With sparks flying and hidden truths unraveling, will Carrie Anne be able to deny her desires to save herself from another heart break?

Carrie Ann tugged the earbud free from her ear, tossing the handsome young man a small smile. “Sorry, I couldn’t hear you. What did you say?”

He crossed a lanky somewhat defined arm in front of her, casually gripping the handlebar of her bike. “I said, you must be exhausted—” Before she could reply he continued, “—from running through my mind all day.”

Surely she must’ve heard him incorrectly. He was probably fifteen at most sporting a baby face and a patch of ten whiskers on his chin. Her brows tucked into a furrow. “Excuse me?”

A dose of youthful overconfidence drifted over his mouth in a sharp grin. “I seem to have forgotten my number. Can I have yours?”

“My phone number?” Carrie Ann scanned the near vicinity, row after row of workout equipment, for the practical jokester responsible for the madness. “Ha ha. Very funny. Who put you up to this?”

Her amusement only encouraged the boy’s macho bravado. “No one put me up to anything. I need a date. I just got into LA and I’ve got this Red Carpet event—”

“A date?” she scoffed at the ludicrous suggestion. Though she looked young for her age, Carrie Ann was still all of thirty-four years old.

“Yeah, you know. A date. You, me, hundreds of fans screaming as we stroll down the Red Carpet.” His voice cracked emphasizing the words Red Carpet…for the second time. A self-absorbed twinkle gleamed in his brown eyes as if he expected her to melt and drop to her knees right there in the gym.

“Kid, you’re barking up the wrong tree.”

“I’m totally serious. My uncle has this movie premier and I can’t just bring anyone.” A chunk of blond hair fell on his forehead and he flipped his head to the side. My date needs to be…hot, and well, you’re the hottest girl I’ve seen since I got to LA.”

She sneered at the absurdity. Silliness turned to annoyance. Carrie Ann switched gyms a few months back, paying out the nose to invest in her fitness and more importantly her privacy. Her last gym was more crowded than a cattle call casting session.

Carrie Ann rolled her eyes. She moved around him, gathering her workout towel and reaching for her bag. “Look kid, you seem real sweet, but—“

“You’re right about one thing.” A familiar voice, deep and perfectly modulated, approached from behind. “She is the most beautiful woman you’ll ever lay eyes on. But, you’re reaching for the stars with this one, Drew. She’s a heartbreaker.”

An ice cold tickle ascended up her spine raising the hair on the back of her neck. Her head snapped, glancing over her shoulder, colliding with a pair of rich amber eyes from her past. Without breaking eye contact, Ryan Summer strolled right into her personal space sporting athletic shorts, a fitted muscle shirt and a killer smile.

Nowadays, most people knew the Hollywood heartthrob as Ryan. Just Ryan. No last name needed. But after nearly a decade of blockbuster hits and infamous relationships that skyrocketed his success into superstardom, to Carrie Ann, he was still just Summer. Her old college flame.

“Funny, I could say the same about you,” she countered his jab, marshalling a bit of annoyance in her tone to combat the rush of heat spreading to her already pink cheeks.

A sexy smile caught the curve of his wide firm mouth. “Hello, Red.”

“Hello, Summer.” Carrie Ann tossed a trivial nod toward the teenager. “Who’s this? Your new apprentice?”

“Apprentice?” Moving a step closer, he dragged his fingers through the short cropped layers of sandy blond hair. “This is Mark’s boy. Do you remember my nephew, Drew?”

“Your brother’s boy?” she questioned in surprise. Avoiding the view of his bicep curling into the size of a softball, Carrie Ann ran a quick scan over the young man at his side. “Whoa, you had to be four or five years old the last time I saw you.”

“I don’t remember meeting you.” Drew’s eyes flickered with bemusement and optimism.

She extended her hand. “I’m Carrie Ann. I knew you when you were—“

“You’re Carrie Ann? The Carrie Ann?” The boy spun toward his uncle, his blue eyes broadened in disbelief. “The One?”

Her stomach twisted hearing the title. A flash of perspiration instantaneously flooded her palms. Before she had time to renege on the clammy greeting, Drew clasped her hand, giving it a polite shake.

A low rumble of laughter simmered in Summer’s chest and a rosy shade of red burnished high on the bridge of his nose. He nodded, “This is The Carrie Ann. The One who got away.”

No matter how many years had passed, it never got any easier to see him. Each time she did, she suddenly found it harder to breath.

The pounding of her heart quickened as her gaze slipped over his rugged well-defined features. A three day scruff accentuated the slight dimple at the bottom of his chin.  The disheveled layers of hair were wet from exertion near his temple and nape. Time had been very good to him.

She felt the warmth of his hand close around the back of her bare arm. The early morning stubble of his beard brushed against her cheek as he leaned closer pressing a small kiss near her temple. Carrie Ann squirmed at his nearness, ducking to the side attempting to put some space between them.

“I’m…I’m all sweaty,” she insisted breathily.

“It’s okay,” he murmured softly in her ear. The heat of his breath brought chill bumps to the damp skin near her neck. “I remember enjoying you all sweaty.”

Ryan’s golden eyes locked onto hers, anchoring her feet to the floor. The penetration of his stare momentarily tied her tongue in a knot, turning the awkward moment even more difficult. Carrie Ann hadn’t bumped into Ryan in at least three years and she hadn’t seen him covered in sweat in ten. An image of him, gloriously naked, flashed in her mind and her thighs. Frustration mounted as her body willingly betrayed her.

Carrie Ann’s jaw set rigid contemplating the idea of flipping off her hooha for its insubordination.

“That was a long time ago,” she snipped abruptly.

“Seems like only yesterday to me.”
