REVIEW

**4.75 stars**:

Holy hotel sex! Don’t worry, there’s plenty of it in this second installment of Lola’s steamy new series. Falling in love with Dom is as easy as sliding the bolt across the hotel door….just a click and you’re a goner.

Juliet and Dom heat up more than hotel rooms. Their escapades will weaken your knees and hitch your breath. Why 4.75 stars? Because, ANAL SEX NEEDS REAL LUBE. It’s just a thing for me. I spy an embroidered tea towel in my future. [Sorrynotsorry, Lola].

We pick back up with Juliet as she’s about to decide whether she’s going all in or not with Dom. Of course, her decision has consequences – some of which are super fucking hot, and others that may lead to a broken heart. I so desperately wanted Juliet to bare her soul and explain away all of the issues that could plague their relationship. BUT OF COURSE she doesn’t do what I want. And I can’t shake her. Because she’s fictional. #thesearemyproblems

However, Juliet isn’t an idiot – she’s just caught in a cloud of love and doesn’t want to fall from her perch. I can’t blame her. If I was staring at Dom’s abs on the regular, I’d probably lose some coherent thought, too. Speaking of Dom, I fucking love him. I love his dirty talk. I love his whispered sweet nothings. I love every romantic and filthy bone in his body. SIGH. Dom makes you shiver with anticipation and heat up with need. I could continue, but I promise, you’d rather just feel it.

Notwithstanding Lubegate2015, this book satisfies your dirtiest desires and I am completely hooked. There are more feelings revealed in this book, which will leave you crying for more once you hit that cliffhanger. Lola knows exactly what you need and gives it to you hard and fast. Book 3 is an immediate one-click. LOVED!

Review: Unexpected by Lilly Avalon

Author: Lilly Avalon

Book: Unexpected

tl;dr recommendation: This isn’t just a kissing book, it’s a book full of searing kisses.

Book Summary:

Ever had one of those days? Alina Lyons is having one. Everything keeps falling apart and going wrong. Just when she thinks it couldn’t get worse, it does. After a case of mistaken identity and a broken heart, she finds herself questioning the things she thought she knew. She wonders who she can turn to or trust anymore.

An unlikely bond with her former best friend’s ex, Ryan Wilcox, sends her life in a new direction. He offers her a place to stay while she gets her life back on track. His friendship is exactly what she’s been missing—what she’s been needing. Alina’s never felt this alive. As time goes by, the dynamic of their relationship becomes more than either of them expected. A few innocent kisses could lead them in a new direction, but are they prepared for what’s on the other side?

Only one way to find out.

*Unexpected is a standalone new adult novel*

Longer Review:

Ryan is passionate and adorable – and deserves so much better than his girlfriend, Victoria. It’s almost a damn good thing that she’s a conniving bitch. Victoria’s betrayal throws Ryan and Alina together as friends…or something more?

Of course, Alina’s luck isn’t much better – in fact she’s well on her way to having the worst day of her life. Or so she thinks. Her embarrassment in the shower is just the beginning. She then quickly becomes jobless, boyfriendless, bestfriendless and homeless in short order. Great fucking day. I’d be throwing my face into a pint of peanut butter chocolate ice cream right about then. Of course, Ryan swoops in to save the day. He’s just a good guy. He’s a good friend, brother, son and fuck…he’s just a decent person – those don’t come along every day, and Alina knows it.

Alina and Ryan are really sweet together – the book builds their relationship until you’re dying to see them get together. Ryan is an incredibly patient man and while he knows that he wants more, he needs for Alina to get on board as well. She’s terrified of opening her heart to her new best friend even though she knows that there’s more there. In fact, her feelings for him are hard to ignore. As time goes by, the passion increases until they both are ready to combust.

The stolen kisses and nighttime hugs had the corners of my lips curling upward and breaking into a full blown smile. This isn’t just a kissing book, it’s a book full of searing kisses. Unexpected is also full of first dates and blanket forts and forehead kisses. Sweet, passionate and endearing, I was more than happy to let Ryan be my book boyfriend for the evening. 4.25 stars!

About Cuba Undercover

Description: Cuban-American TV reporter Rebecca Menendez’s success comes from playing by the rules. When she’s kidnapped by a fierce and intensely handsome man who needs her help, however, all of those rules seem pointless. Nothing could have prepared her for being taken hostage…or the irresistible reward if she complies: information about her long-thought dead father. Antonio Vega has spent almost every day of his adult life dreaming of revenging his father’s death. With his sister’s life and freedom in jeopardy, Antonio isn’t taking any chances. But once Rebecca and Antonio are in Cuba, they’re immersed in a world of corruption, deceit, and betrayal. It’s a deadly game…and there are no rules.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“You sound like a man in love.”

“I am in love with Havana, with the city, the people, and our culture.”

Our  culture. She didn’t feel the same connection. Never had. One thing had always been standing in the way. “But you hate the government.”

His body tensed, and he took a step to the side, putting distance between them. “Yes, Rebecca.” That condescending tone had returned. “You know how I feel about the government.”

For so many of their people, the problem came down to one man and his family, the hate so strong Cuban Americans could see nothing else. Her own mother had forbidden her to even say his name in the house. “Is this a Castro thing?” As if she had to ask. Antonio had the hate, and he had it bad. It had been tattooed all over his face from the moment she’d met him.

He stomped away, putting even more distance between them. “It’s a Communist thing.” He gestured toward the city. “First the government takes away religion.” Turning back to face her, a fire ignited in his dark eyes. “When you do that, you strip people of hope and separate them from their morals and values.” Crossing his arms, he stared across the bay. “Then you shred every iota of what makes a person unique, under the pretense of making everyone equal, but when you do that you take away drive and desire. You create a complacent society, weak from dependence, unable to dream and unwilling to raise a hand toward change.”

Jesus, he spoke like a politician, if a notably scruffy one with his goatee and strands of his crazy rock-and-roll-style hair blowing in the hot Havana breeze. Despite the fact that his words were resonating deep within her, the reporter in her automatically played the devil’s advocate. “Do you think you speak for everyone here in Cuba, or are you just speaking on behalf of the angry Cuban Americans back in Florida?”

He twisted toward her, nailing her to the space where she stood with a stare as hot as glue from a gun. She knew she’d touched a nerve, and she didn’t know why she felt the urge to push him like this. Honestly, this was not a man she wanted to piss off. Like it or not, Antonio was her life raft back to America. And after witnessing him with his family, she was actually starting to like him. At the very least, she admired him. Not every man would be so steadfast in his devotion to his family, risking life and limb to care for and liberate them.

Then there was the way he looked at her at times, with a heated gaze that made her insides quiver. And whenever they touched…

Pre-Order

Hudson’s eyes flared. “Taunting me?” he asked. But he didn’t wait for an answer. Instead he lurched forward in a few powerful strides, palming the back of the couch with his free hand and leaping over it.

Shit.

With her heart pounding, Allie took off in the only available direction. When she reached the stairs, Hudson was right behind her, taking them two at a time. She gasped as his fingers grazed her hip before dropping to catch her ankle.

He yanked her down as he prowled up her body, his hips surging against her backside as he lowered his mouth to her ear. “I’ve caught you, baby.” He buried his hand in her hair and pulled her head to the side. She moaned when his lips found the spot on her neck that never failed to drive her wild. Pleasure shot through her as he sucked on the sensitive skin and she writhed beneath him. “Now, what shall I do to you?”

Allie’s lips parted on a raged breath. “Whatever you want.”

Book Summary:

She once was important. Now she’s considered dangerous.

In a new America where almost no one can be trusted, Caroline lies unconscious in a government hospital as others decide her fate. She is a political dissident, wanted for questioning by a brutal regime that has come to power in a shockingly easy way. As she recovers from her injuries, all she has are her memories. And once she wakes up, they may not matter anymore.

Dissident is a blend of romantic suspense, contemporary romance, political thriller, and speculative fiction. Told mostly in flashback, it details the budding romantic relationship between our heroine, Caroline, and Jack, the silver fox playboy who tries to win her heart.

Part One of a Six Part Series. Each part is a full length novel between 60,000-120,000 words and ends in a cliffhanger. For readers 18+. This saga contains adult situations, including non-gratuitous violence, explicit (consensual) sex, psychological and physical trauma, and an oftentimes dark and gritty plot (particularly in part two).

unnamed (2)

Review:

This review was originally posted on March 17, 2015 and can be found here, but it’s also below for your convenience 😉

This may be Cecilia’s first book/series but it most definitely shouldn’t (and won’t) be her last. I don’t even know what sub-genre to really put this book in, but if I had my way it’d be political dystopian intellectual smut. Sound enticing? IT IS.

I love it when the characters intelligently banter back and forth in a way that leads them from the debate into the bedroom. It’s sort of a weakness of mine and this book hits all of my buttons. #talknerdytome

We start with a scene that we know is happening in the present day – Caroline and Jack are running through the woods to escape…something…or someone. We later find out that the US government has gone to shit – I don’t know why yet – and Caroline and Jack have information that they are trying to get across the border into Canada. All of those ‘I’m moving to Canada’ jokes suddenly seem very possible.

So you’re thinking, oh…a political drama? SORT OF BUT BETTER. Political Drama + Romance + Sex. Yup, I’m in.

So after getting a taste of the present, we’re then thrust (hehe) back into how Jack and Caroline get together and ahhhhh, I love them. This is where the heat starts to rise. There’s so much delicious word porn in this book. YES, WORD PORN. One utterance of the word ‘laconic’ and I was ready. If they started fucking his his library next I was pretty sure my vagina was going to explode.

There’s a ton of romance before there’s a ton of sex and I liked that. We read plenty of books (ok, at least I READ PLENTY OF BOOKS) where the sex comes first, and I like those. I do. But it was nice for Jack to try to have a relationship with Caroline that was built on trust and friendship before he started licking his way down her body. Don’t worry – because that’s in there too.

Trinity-college-library-dub

I would talk about the ending but i’m not sure I can without using all caps. Let’s just say that we know there’s a cliffhanger – I mean, there’s six parts to this story so OBVIOUSLY there’s a cliffhanger. After a few curses, I calmed down. I’ll just have to wait for book 2….LE SIGH.

Mostly, I’m in love with the fact that this book wasn’t dumbed down. It’s unapologetically an intellectual smut novel, which made me all warm in all the right places. There’s suspense, danger, anger, love, and (most importantly) delicious sex. GIVE ME MORE.

Excerpt:

Caroline set up a playlist on her iPod speaker system and Jack started to teach her a few basic moves. After several songs, he even managed to get her to do a small lift.  She had the jitterbug, Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, and foxtrot down in a couple of hours.

“You catch on fast,” he said. “Incredibly fast.”

“I don’t know how I’m doing it.”

“Let’s try something with a little quicker pace,” he suggested. “See how you do with that.”

Caroline put “Sing Sing Sing” on the stereo and they started to dance. A minute or two in, she realized that she’d forgotten it was an almost five minute song.  By the end of the dance she was winded. As the music stopped she doubled over, trying to catch her breath.

“You’re killing me, McIntyre.” She looked up at him. He had barely broken a sweat.

“Maybe you’re right,” he said. “Maybe you do need to get to the House gym more.”

“Jackass,” she panted. “If I weren’t so tired I’d punch you.”

“That would be quite improper behavior coming from the nicest person in Congress.” Jack pulled her to a standing position. “How about a classic waltz instead? It’s less jumping around.”

“Okay,” Caroline said. “Just give me a second.”

They cranked out a few more slow dances, and she was again amazed at how quickly she’d caught on. They were twirling across the basement floor to a waltz by Dvorak. Caroline felt as if she was floating on air. Jack’s hands were secure and confident, but gentle. He guided her from move to move, and she realized she didn’t want the dance to end. But soon it was over, right after she’d twirled out of his arms and started laughing.

She clapped her hands, spun around, and turned to him, breathless. She tossed her head back and laughed again, amazed at how she’d managed not to trip over herself yet again.

“This is fun,” she said.

Jack smiled at her. “You really are quite good for a beginner.”

She tried not to blush. “I have a good teacher.”

The next song came on. Caroline recognized it immediately. “The Way You Look Tonight.” She’d forgotten that she added it to the playlist. One of her favorites.

She closed her eyes. “Oh, I love Tony Bennett’s version of this song.”

“Well then, my lady, let’s take this one a little slower.” He reached for her hand and pulled her closer to him.  She put her arms around his neck and leaned in. His cologne smelled so good. They started to dance.

“You’re lovely,” Jack murmured into her ear.

Was that directed at her, or was he mimicking the lyrics?

He was holding her closer than she thought was necessary for a dance between friends, but she wasn’t about to complain. They moved slowly but they’d been practicing all night and were starting to fatigue. Caroline leaned into his shoulder as if it were the most natural thing in the world, not realizing that they had almost completely stopped dancing.

“Caroline?” She heard Jack’s sweet voice again. “I’m not sure we’re dancing anymore.”

“Does it matter?” She lifted her head up.

Jack looked into her eyes. “Not unless it matters to you.”

He slowly brought his lips to hers. She didn’t turn away this time but closed her eyes and waited. It was sweet, kind, tender…and definitely not platonic. And it felt incredibly good, the pleasure wafting over her. She’d forgotten what it was like to be kissed, really kissed. She didn’t want him to stop. Jack cupped her cheek in his palm and pulled her closer to him with his other hand. Caroline brought her hands up to his hair and held them there, not wanting it to end.

She had been wondering what it would be like to run her hands through those gorgeous, perfect silver locks. His hair was soft, and she traced her fingers through it as Jack teased her tongue with his. She wanted to tug at it, bring him even closer to her, but then saw Nicky’s face in her mind and pulled away.

Caroline covered her mouth with her hand. “What was that for?”

Jack withdrew his hand from her waist. He seemed to be confused. “I-”

“It was the music,” she stammered. “We – it’s a romantic song. It’s hard not to get sucked into it. It’s fine.”

She thought Jack looked a little unnerved, but he recovered quickly. “Sure. Just a little kiss between friends. It didn’t mean anything.”

“Right.” Caroline kissed him on the cheek. “See? Nothing whatsoever.”

“Yeah.” Jack looked at his watch. “It’s late. I’d better head home. I have to get up pretty early tomorrow.”

“Not a problem.” She exhaled, grateful for the escape. “Thanks for the dance lessons.”

“Anytime,” Jack said. “I mean that.”

“I know.”

“See you on Tuesday?” he asked. “Lunch, maybe?”

“You bet.”

She turned off the music and escorted Jack up the stairs, watching him through the window as he started his Cadillac and drove away. It was nothing, that kiss.  That song, the entire night…they’d gotten too caught up in the entire thing. Dancing could be an extraordinarily sensuous experience between two people who knew what they were doing, and Jack was an excellent instructor. It was only natural that she felt such incredible physical chemistry with him. That was it. Nothing more.

But Caroline was still trying to avoid the thought running through her mind – her increasing desire for him to turn his car around, run through her front door, and take her in his arms again.

The Espionage Effect - The Blindfold Pic Quote

Review

Oh hello world of dangerous spies and subterfuge! While Devin is looking to restart her life or just find a new direction for it, she falls into a world that she didn’t knew existed…she and Alec heat up the sheets while the danger spikes around them. Of course, is anything really as it seems?

The first few chapters had me a little confused, but I quickly picked up what Kat was putting down and I realized I was supposed to be a little confused. The entire book is a question of whether things are really as they look and I sort of loved it. It had me thinking *GASP!* and trying to puzzle out the good from the bad, the real from the fake, the truth from the lies. I am also entirely in love with Devin’s brain. She’s incredibly intelligent and delightfully sarcastic – it’s practically a perfect combination.

Alec is equally as enticed with Devin’s brain…and her body…*fans self* He eye fucks her from the very first time he sees her and the heated perusals don’t let up. Even when his brain switches into a calculated mission, the stolen glances between them tell Devin that whatever is building is something even her logic can’t puzzle out.

I loved the layers of danger, sexual chemistry, logic, and betrayal that make up this modern day brainiac James Bond story. I quickly became invested in the characters and fell into the world of spies right along side Devin. Alec is more than welcome to get under my cover(s) anytime….*winks* 4 stars!

EXCERPT

“Hey,” a familiar voice said, making her flinch and almost knock over the glass of ice water the bartender had helpfully provided. She looked up and came face to face with Declan, his deep green eyes sparkly, his thick auburn hair slicked back, that stupid shirt hanging open, per marketing department instruction. Her eyes went directly to his cut torso as if pulled by magnets. She blinked and looked away.

“Hey there.” She held up a finger, figuring it time to resume the alcohol intake. Maybe she could pass out on the way home in the cab and just forget this night ever happened. She shifted when he took the seat next to her and brushed her arm with his.

“It ended all right, didn’t it? I mean, for the charity or whatever it was?” He grinned at her, forcing her to match it and sending a zing of lust from the base of her spine to her toes. That singsong voice—dear Lord, but she could listen to it all night. And she would, if given half the chance.

Stop it, Emily.

“Um, yeah. I mean. It’s for, uh…” She gulped, realizing she’d totally forgotten the cause du jour that had made her have to chaperone this nightmare. “Food Pantry.”

“Right,” he said, accepting a cup of coffee from the bartender. “Cheers, mate.” He sipped, looking straight ahead while she sat, gnawing the inside of her cheek and wishing she could unhear what she’d just heard in the hallway.

“Gabe and Lillian leave?” She sipped the fresh gin and tonic, hand shaking. It was their common conversational thread and she grasped at it.

“Aye,” he said.

The silence took on a heaviness that made it hard to breathe. When she risked a glance at him he was staring at her, his eyes narrowed. “What?” she said, startled and defensive. “Do I have lime in my teeth?”

“No,” he said and resumed sipping his coffee in silence.

She clenched her jaw, willing something resembling a coherent small-talk starter or even a mildly flirtatious comment to emerge. Nothing. She cleared her throat, sipped, cleared it again, sipped some more. Her heartbeat pounded in her ears. The heat from his leg seemed to increase. She moved her thigh ever so slightly away.

“Well,” they said in unison. She giggled and nearly fainted when a flush crept up his neck into his cheeks.

“You first,” they said together.

“Cut it out,” she said. “God, you’re making me feel like a dolt.”

“Me?” He reared back in mock dismay, hand to his bare—very bare—chest.

“Yeah, you. Where’s Jason? Please tell me he didn’t decide to carry his vendetta outside the building?”

“Nah, he’s over there.” Declan pointed behind her. “He’s the one in the lip lock with, ah, what’s her name. I think she’s actually gonna play on the women’s team.”

“Oh, okay,” Emily said, suddenly recalling the recent lip lock she’d been privy to.

“I think Coop is messing with your office girl,” Declan said, motioning for the bartender to refill his cup.

“We call them ‘interns’ in the twenty-first century, at least here in the colonies.”

He laughed and blushed again. She had to sit on her hands not to touch his face, to not brush a lock of thick red hair off his forehead.

“Aye, well, you know what I mean.” He rubbed his jaw and ran his hand around the back of his neck. “Bastard really clocked me.”

“I know. I’m sorry.” She let herself do it—to reach out and just graze his shirt-covered biceps with her fingertips. He flinched as if she’d burned him. “I mean…right. Well.” She sighed and consumed the entire drink in a gulp.

Declan gave a low whistle. “I do love a woman who can do that. It’s the English in me, I guess.”

“English?” She said, wiping her lips with a BJG-logoed napkin. The bit of the booze that wasn’t headed straight to her brain sloshed around in her bloodstream, reminding her of her lack of food in the past few hours.

Oh well. Fuck it.

She turned to him and leaned on one elbow, deciding to flirt because why not?

For some reason, the bar didn’t materialize under her arm and she sensed herself sliding sideways. The teetering barstool made a loud screeching sound right before Emily shut her eyes, waiting for the inevitable embarrassing landing.

But there were strong, warm arms around her waist and lips at her ear, making her eyes fly open.

“Gotcha, PR lady,” Declan said. She swallowed hard and got her feet under her, stepping away from him at the precise second Cassandra appeared, smiling until she saw that Declan still had one hand on Emily’s arm. “You all right?” he said, looking into her very soul.

Oh good Christ, stop it! You are drunk off your ass. This is no stupid romance novel. He is not looking into your soul. He’s staring down the front of your sleazy costume.

“Well, isn’t this cozy,” Cassandra-who’d-just-been-fucked-by-Max said with a sneer.

“Where’s Max?” Emily asked, unable to stop herself, even while knowing better than to engage in any kind of a cat-fight with this bitch.

“Who?”

She had to give the woman credit. Not even a quick blink or blush to acknowledge the blatant cheat. Emily watched as Cassandra ran her fingers through her hair, and then touched Declan’s arm. He let go of Emily and stepped away, blinking fast as if waking up from a trance.

“Time to go, Scotty, my darling.” Cassandra took his hand and turned him away without another word. But as Emily bent down to slip her shoes off, grateful yet sad to let go of the moment, the other woman looked around and pinned her with an accusatory glare.

With a long sigh Emily righted the overturned barstool and sat slumped, mostly makeup-less and wishing herself anywhere in the universe but here.
