Excerpt:

With his head closer to her level she started shouting at him. “What the fuck is wrong with you? How dare you interrupt my dancing and then drag me out here!” She slapped him on the cheek next. That stung. “Don’t you ever manhandle me like that again!”

He straightened up, rubbing his cheek. “You done?”

She tipped her head back to glare at him. Man, she was pissed. “I’m not sure. It depends on what stupid thing you do or say next. I might have to knee you in the balls.”

He grunted in response and ran a hand over his face to cover the smile that was fighting to get out. If she thought he’d let her get close enough to get his balls, she’d be in for a surprise.

She stared at him, waiting. After a minute she threw her hands up in exasperation. “Are you going to answer me? Or should I hit you some more until I feel better?”

“What was the question again?”

She took a step toward him, and he readied himself to block a strike to the groin. Instead, she got right up in his space and he could smell her shampoo. “I asked you what. The. Fuck. Your. Problem. Is.” She emphasized each word with a smack to the chest.

He grabbed her wrist, tired of being used as her personal punching bag. “Enough. I took it when you hit me earlier because I deserved it, but that’s enough.” He crowded into her personal space even more, bringing his body flush against hers. Her head was tipped back, her eyes wide, her lips parted. He wanted to kiss her. He’d been wanting to kiss her for months now. And he wanted her more now than he’d ever wanted anyone before. “As for what my problem is, you’re my problem.”

At his words, the pissed off expression took over her face again. “What the hell does that mean? I haven’t done anything to you!”

“Fuck, Megan. I can’t stand watching you dance with all these other guys, seeing them put their hands all over you, groping you. And you seem to like it. Are you out fucking around while Matt and I are gone? Having parties at our house so you’re not home alone?”

She gasped and her nostrils flared. He caught her hand before it made contact with his other cheek. She struggled against his grip, but he didn’t let go.

“How dare you? You have no right to accuse me of anything! You’re the biggest manwhore I know! You fuck any chick that you have your eye on and dump her the minute you’re done! How dare you of all people say that to me?”

She was struggling against him, so he put her arms behind her back, wrapping his arms around her middle, keeping her pressed against him, trapping one of her legs with both of his so she couldn’t make good on her threat to knee him in the balls. Her tone was laced with venom, and he almost recoiled from the bite. Except he was getting more pissed off too. He was a manwhore?

But Megan wasn’t done. “And it’s none of your fucking business if I’m fucking anyone. You’re my roommate, and a shitty one at that. I don’t need you scaring off guys who I just want to dance with.”

“That asshole wanted more than just a dance.”

“You think I’m too stupid to know that? Just because he wants more doesn’t mean I’m going to give it up.”

“What do you mean I’m a shitty roommate?”

She laughed at him. “You barely say two words at a time to Matt or me. You’re rude and standoffish.”

She started struggling again. With the way he held her, her breasts were pushed against his chest and they rubbed back and forth with her movements. He could feel his body start to react. “Matt told me to back off and leave you alone, so I did.” He spit out the words through gritted teeth.

Megan stopped struggling and looked up at him, eyes wide. “Why would he do that?”

He thrust his now hard cock against her belly. “You really don’t know the answer to that question?”

Megan’s eyes grew even wider, and he couldn’t be sure in the dim light, but he thought her cheeks went a little pink. Who knew Megan could be made to blush? Her tongue darted out to wet her lips, and it was all Chris could do not to groan. “Why would …? What …? I don’t understand.”

In answer to her inarticulate questions, Chris pulled her closer and crushed his mouth to hers. She stiffened at first, but relaxed into him, opening for him when he began questing with his tongue. Her lips were soft, and he could taste the beer from the party. He wondered a little how much she’d had. She didn’t seem drunk.

When he pulled back, she was staring up at him, looking a little dazed. He released her, letting her step back. She brought a hand to her mouth, never taking her eyes from his. Her pupils were dilated, her eyes hooded. He felt smug that he’d managed to take her from pissed off to aroused with one kiss. Or maybe, like him, she’d already been aroused from their fighting. He reached for her free hand. “Let’s get out of here.”

“What lies beneath my veiled perfection is the ugly truth—my truth, my reality, my destiny.”

Vivian Graham has an acceptance letter into Harvard, a badass tattoo, loyal friends, ties to marijuana, a penchant for Dunkin’ Donuts, and her pesky V-card.

Everyday she takes the Red Line to her job at The Green Pot in Boston while her friends enter the coveted, black iron gates to higher learning. The ramifications from a tragic accident have put her life on hold while time marches on for everyone around her.

After graduating from Harvard Law, Boston native, Oliver Konrad, moves to Portland to start his career and his life. Three years later, after a horrific discovery, he returns home to trade in his three-piece suit for leather work boots and his suburban home for a condo in Cambridge.

All he brought back to the East Coast was an aversion to pillows and secrets he keeps hidden behind a mysterious locked door. Oliver’s days are predictable and his nights are lonely until he meets Vivian on the subway. Her long raven hair, green eyes, and mile-long legs are achingly sexy, but the way she “innocently” fingers and licks her Boston Kreme doughnut can only be described in two words—complete torture.

When their paths cross at every turn, laughter is abundant, friendship is easy, and love is unintentional. However, their future seems improbable.

Review: Quinn I by JC Cliff

Author: JC Cliff

Book: Quinn I

tl;dr recommendation: Book 1 gets 4.5 stars for heat, suspense and lots of nature fucking.

Book Summary:

You have been warned – Explicit scenes, unexpected twists full of suspense and off the grid angst which skirt along the edges of the dark side will make your heart pound, your pulse race, and the pages flip. And…be prepared to be thrown over a damn cliff.

Fearless and determined, Quinn is the perfect man for the job the Moretti mob has in mind: track down missing mafia princess, Alexis Moretti, and bring her home.

What starts out as a simple task to repay an old debt turns into so much more than he bargained for… And so does she.

As Quinn and Lexi grow close, she becomes more than just his mission. But Lexi and Quinn are both keeping secrets–secrets that could destroy their blossoming romance just as quickly as it ignited. When Lexi’s past catches up with them, secrets and lies will be revealed, and the ultimate test of forgiveness will be upon them both.

*Join Quinn and Alexis as their story unfolds in two full-length contemporary erotic romance novels. Quinn II will release April 19th!

Longer Review:

Exhilarating, suspenseful and erotic. I’m a huge fan of nature. I’m also a huge fan of sex. When you combine those with a suspenseful story where you’re not quite sure who’s the good guy and who’s playing who – you get seriously hot sex in the woods filled with tension that could practically burst on site.

Quinn is an alpha male you’ll love to call your next book boyfriend. He’s sweet and calm in a storm – but he’s utterly dangerous when crossed. Granted, he would never cross Alexis. What starts as a job quickly turns into much more.

Quinn’s always been a playboy – he fucks anything that moves (well, any HOT thing that moves) and he’s never looked to settle down. When he’s hired by Alexis’ father to recover her from some crazy runaway attempt, he thinks nothing of it…until he sees her. Suddenly everything changes.

I was dying over the secrets. DYING. If I could have screamed at the characters to unload their secrets on each other, I would have. Because SERIOUSLY. It made for some delicious tension though – and when they do come clean, everything is perfect…until it isn’t. Yes, that’s super vague BUT THIS IS A CLIFFHANGER. so be forewarned.

There’s a lot more at play here than what meets the eye – so go in and get ready to have your head fucked a little while you watch two very unlikely lovers fall for each other. Book 1 gets 4.5 stars for heat, suspense and lots of nature fucking.

Guitarist of the world-famous rock band The Devil’s Share, no one would expect Jackson Cole to have a best friend who’s a girl, but his relationship with Bryan Lawson is too special to endanger with sex…until a different girl—the waifish nine-year-old who claims he’s her father—makes Jacks realize all that truly matters.

WILD. RECKLESS. IRRESPONSIBLE. A FATHER?

Jackson Cole has been called many things: immature, irresponsible, sexy as hell. But one thing he’s never been called is “Dad”—until Child Services shows up on his doorstep with a waifish nine-year-old claiming he’s the father. What’s a rock star to do? Call your best friend, who just happens to be super hot, funny, and even more commitment-phobic than you, and beg her to help. Of course, now that his friend is living in the same house, Jacks is finding it harder and harder to keep his hands to himself.

Bryan Lawson never expected to become pals with a charming, hilarious, breathtakingly handsome rock star, but after they met backstage at one of Jacks’s concerts, she couldn’t stop texting him. He’s just the sort of person she could imagine being with forever, except that, try as she might, she’s never managed to stay interested in a relationship for more than three months. Now that Jacks is a dad, the stakes are much higher. A breakup wouldn’t just ruin their friendship, it would destroy a little girl who’s just learning to love. But maybe also the game has changed.

Excerpt
When I got home I headed upstairs with the intention of checking on Landry and then heading to bed. I didn’t want to wake Bryan, and I didn’t want to look too closely at the way I’d booked it out of that club. As I reached the top of the stairs I heard Bryan’s voice and Landry’s giggles. I glanced down at my watch; it was after midnight at this point. I poked my head into her room. “Hello my beautiful girls. What are y’all still doing up?”

They both smiled when they saw me, and I ignored the way my heart leapt. “You’re home.” Bryan said it like a statement. Not a question.

I grinned. “Yeah. Turns out I rather be here.”

She held up a large hardbound book. “Landry asked me to read to her and we both kind of lost track of time.” Bryan closed the book and put it on the nightstand. “It’s late sweet girl, we’ll read more tomorrow.”

I walked across the room, leaning down to kiss Landry’s forehead. “Good night, Buttercup.”

“’Night, Jacks.”

We both headed across the hall to my room and collapsed on my bed, staring at the ceiling.

Bryan lightly slapped my thigh. “You can go meet back up with Luke, if you want. She’ll be asleep as soon as her head hits the pillow. No worries here, if that’s what you came home for.”

“Nah, I’m right where I want to be.” And that was the God’s honest truth.

She was quiet for a few minutes, the only sound in the room was us breathing, each struggling with the right words. Finally she moved to face me, I automatically did the same. “Good. I’m pretty happy where I am right now too.”

She was so damn pretty. I could get lost in those blue eyes of hers. I fought the urge to kiss her plump pink lips. Friends don’t kiss. And we were just friends. Maybe if I said just friends in my head enough times I’d start to believe it. “Want to watch a movie?” I didn’t want her to leave me.

She grinned, a wicked glint in her beautiful eyes. “I have a better idea.”

I shifted closer to her on the bed, playing along. “Oh yeah?”

She bit her bottom lip, nodding.

My dick strained against my zipper. He was still pissed that I’d denied him earlier, not turned on by Bryan’s flirty banter. “What did you have in mind, baby doll?”

She rolled over and grabbed a hot pink bag from the floor beside my bed. “I bought us a present today…”

I shifted onto my stomach, taking the bag from her hands and hiding my massive hard on. I pulled out the tissue paper, tossing it over my shoulder. “What?! You got Zombies 5? I didn’t even know this was out yet!”

She giggled, putting her hand over my mouth. “Shhh…you’re going to wake up Landry and this game is definitely not suitable for children.” She sat up. “I’ll go get ready for bed in Luke’s bathroom.” She paused on her way out the door. “Change clothes. You smell like sex and whiskey.”

“B…I couldn’t, I mean, I didn’t…uh, nothing happened.”

She shook her head, “Jacks, it’s none of my business. I just rather not, um, just shower, okay?”

I nodded. My heart was racing; the distress I felt at her thinking I’d been with someone else was unwelcome. And it was freaking me the fuck out. I was pacing around my room. Why did it matter so much? Why did her thinking that bother me? Probably the same damn reason I’d run out of that club like it was on fucking fire.

Because I was falling for my best friend.

Blurb

Rock a stadium. Bang a chick. Repeat. As lead singer of The Devil’s Share, Dash Conner could get anything or anyone he wanted—until he met Lexi Grant.

MONEY. FAME. WHISKEY. SEX.

For Dash Conner, lead singer of The Devil’s Share, everything he wanted was his for the asking. Whiskey. Drugs. Money. Sex. But not Lexi Grant. For the first time since he picked up a guitar, a girl was actually demanding he woo her. For a chance with her, Dash would do that and more.

Lexi Grant was no groupie. Just because the biggest rock star in the world smiled at her didn’t mean she had to fall into bed with him—but it was going to be awfully hard to resist that impish smile and those tatted abs. Surely one night of fun wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Unless that night ends with a broken condom.

For Lexi and Dash, that’s just the beginning. Add an overly affectionate pit bull, a missing guitarist, a house full of sorority girls, a junkie ex-bandmate and an extreme aversion to Jäger, and it’s either a recipe for disaster or true love.

Blurb

As bassist of the Devil’s Share, Smith James revels in being the ultimate bad boy, until he meets a good girl…who likes it dirty.

PILLS. PAIN. LOSS. LOVE.

Smith James doesn’t need drugs. He just likes them a whole lot. And as bassist for the Devil’s Share, they are easy to come by. So are the women. With a steady supply of both he doesn’t have to think too hard about his past. But when a beautiful physician’s assistant joins the tour, Smith can’t help but want…more.

After watching her high school boyfriend OD, there is no way Dylan Lawson is going to fall for a rock star with a tenuous hold on sobriety, no matter how sexy his New Orleans drawl. She’s been hired to do one job: monitor the health of the lead singer’s girlfriend and her unborn baby. But once Smith flashes that sweet, vulnerable smile, Dylan can’t help but want…more.

And more is what they’ll get. Love on tour is never simple, and with a music festival in Smith’s hometown, a place he’s avoided for years, near his illiterate, abusive, meth-addled father, Smith is one bad night away from a relapse. But with her heart already lost, Dylan is willing to do whatever is necessary to save him—even play a little dirty.

It was nine o’clock on a Saturday night and I was totally out of my fucking element. A bottle of red wine tucked under one arm. A bouquet of wild flowers in the other. A condom tucked into my wallet, just in case. I was in foreign territory, and my entire body knew it – tense shoulders, my heart beating like a drum, and arousal barely contained beneath the surface.

Finley was standing at the doorway, watching me with a confused expression.

She looked gorgeous, makeup free, pink-painted toes, hair mussed and loose. Little cotton pajama shorts and a tank top that hugged her lush breasts.

“Maple’s not here.” She said the words, but she knew as well as I did I wasn’t here for Maple.

“I know that.” My voice was sure and confident.

“Then why are you … oh.” Finley shifted her weight, her eyes dropping from mine as she saw the wine and flowers. She could read it all, plain as day. I knew she could see my intentions, my uncertainty, and underneath it all, my desire. Maybe it was the desire to fix everything I’d broken, or maybe it was just my desire for her as a man desires a woman.

Normally when I felt that primal urge for sex, I headed to West’s bar. I’d pick out a woman for the night. Share a few drinks with her, a few laughs. Later, we’d head back to my place and fuck until dawn. And that was it. I’d be set for a few months.

This … with the courting and the nerves … it was nothing like my standard operating procedure.

I’d never felt so stripped bare and vulnerable. Never put myself out there so completely with a woman before. But then again, Finley was unlike any woman I’d ever met.

And she was still just standing there. “Can I come inside?” I asked, heart in my throat.

She didn’t say anything. But she opened the door wider.

With Nolan’s words ringing in my ears, I stepped over the threshold, sure that whatever happened tonight had the power to heal us both.

Excerpt:

Chapter One

“I don’t think your ability to fight has anything to do with how big you are. It’s to do with how much anger is in you.” – Amy Winehouse

Callum

Five Weeks Earlier

Barney’s was filled to capacity, which was unusual for a Wednesday night. So unusual that it was starting to piss me off. I wanted to lose myself, but the noise in there was distracting. I’d arrived late and lost my usual booth in the far corner, so I’d found myself at the bar instead, which was handy for refills but not what I had in mind when I came in.

To make it worse, I’d been jostled and shoved from all directions. I could feel the beast inside me beginning to stir. I tried to drown it with booze, but we both knew it was a temporary fix.

As if to illustrate my point, the guy beside me bumped into me a second time, spilling my beer down the front of my shirt. That was the final straw. I turned around and gave him a shove back, sending him sprawling into his friends, friends I hadn’t noticed until that moment. That should’ve been my warning, but I was way past seeing signs.

I didn’t even know who the guy was, I only knew he worked over at the mill, was clumsy and had a big mouth. That’s not true, I knew something else about him, too – he was big. Taller than me, so maybe six-three or six-four, with a face that was perfect for radio. He also seemed to think he was bulletproof, but I was about to prove him wrong.

He turned around, and suddenly I was faced with four of them, all varying combinations of huge, drunk and angry. That should’ve slowed me down, or had me pausing at least, but it didn’t. It was a challenge, and I loved a challenge.

“You got a problem, dude?” he asked, giving me the once-over from the feet up.

That pissed me off even more.

“Yeah, I have. You just spilled beer all over me, asshole.”

One of his friends laughed. He actually laughed, although I failed to see the humour in the situation.

“Think that’s funny?” I demanded, slamming what was left of my beer on the bar.

The universal sign for ‘bring it on, punk’.

“Take it outside!”

Harry’s voice was swallowed up in the melee as the situation rapidly deteriorated. I saw red, and it blurred out almost everything around me. The room seemed to sway and heave with people as the guy came barrelling towards me. I should’ve known. I should’ve seen what was happening, but the beer had dulled my senses. I turned my head at the last moment and his fist connected with my cheekbone, jarring my entire skull. The room began to swim as I grabbed onto him and took him to the floor with me. I got in one good punch, one decent, solid hit that got him right in the ribcage, and he rolled off me, his arms wrapped protectively around his gut.

The next thing I knew, two of his friends were frog-marching me across the crowded room, the three of us parting the crowd like the Red Sea. It all happened so fast. One minute, we were on the ground, the next, I was flying out the door. It was one of those surreal moments, like something out of a dream. The anger that had consumed me only moments before dissipated, and I was left hollow and confused, struggling to make sense of the sudden change of scenery.

I landed on the pavement outside on my hands and knees. That woke me up and took care of the dream sequence in one fell swoop. Reality flooded in, like a movie with the sound suddenly switched to full volume.

They yelled something at me that I didn’t catch, then one of them kicked me in the ribs for good measure. The impact blinded me, forcing me over onto my back as I curled into the foetal position to protect myself. Pain, immediate and intense, bloomed through my torso like a virus, making my head spin. I fought back the urge to throw up as I tried to breathe through it. I heard the door to the bar slam shut behind me and then I was alone.

Shit.

I lay there for a while, trying to catch my breath, watching it turn into fog in the cold night air.

It wasn’t the first time I’d been thrown out of a bar, and it probably wasn’t gonna be the last time either. Why was it that booze numbed your senses when you were physically fine, but as soon as someone drove a boot into your ribs – or a fist into your face, or nose, or any other part of you – you felt everything?

Asshole.

I wasn’t sure if that was aimed at him or me. Probably both. I was just as worthy of it, especially lately. It was a wonder that Harry hadn’t barred me already – I sure as hell deserved it. The anger swam around inside me, searching for a release. Booze made it worse, but it also made the flipside easier to bear.

The loneliness.

It was eating me up inside. The booze took my mind off it, at least for a while. I’d yet to discover what the answer was, long-term. I wasn’t even sure I wanted one.

With a grunt, I heaved myself to my knees and then to my feet, staggering slightly. I looked up and down the street, but it was empty. Not a soul was out at this time of the night, and those that were, were inside Barney’s.

I was drunk and stupid, but not suicidal, and sure as hell not capable of driving.

My ribs ached and I tried to take shallow breaths as I made my way down the empty street in the dark, towards home.

Amanda Dick is a night-owl, coffee addict, movie buff and music lover. She loves to do DIY (if it’s not bolted down, she’ll probably paint it, re-cover it or otherwise decorate it) and has tried almost every craft known to man/womankind. She has two sewing machines and an over-locker she can’t remember how to thread. She crochets (but can’t follow a pattern), knits (badly) and refrains from both as a public service.

She believes in love at first sight, in women’s intuition and in following your heart. She is rather partial to dark chocolate and believes in the power of a good vanilla latte.

What lights her fire is writing stories about real people in trying situations. Her passion is finding characters who are forced to test their boundaries. She is insanely curious about how we, as human beings, react when pushed to the edge. Most of all, she enjoys writing about human behaviour – love, loss, joy, grief, friendship and the complexity of relationships in general.

After living in Scotland for five years, she has now settled back home in New Zealand, where she lives with her husband and two children.

Her debut novel, “Absolution”, was released on 29 October 2013 (with the second edition releasing on 6 January 2015). Her second novel, “Between Before and After”, was released in May 2014. Her third novel, “Into the Void”, is scheduled to release in July 2015.

Excerpt

“It’s so loud in here. Maybe we should go someplace quieter,” I suggest. But I realize too late, as it’s coming out of my mouth, that it’s not too loud in here. In fact, I’d describe the sound level as distinctly subdued. Damn it, I can’t take it back, I already said it. Maybe he hasn’t noticed how quiet it is, so I add, “Don’t you think?” in a whisper.

He has to bite his lip to keep from laughing. I’m watching him—he’s physically rolled his lip inward to restrain himself.

“Everly?” He leans in closer, his voice soft, seductive.

“Yes?”

“Did you want to be done talking now?”

I nod, relieved. “Yes.” I sit up a little straighter, ready to grab my bag and hoof it out of here. He relaxes, sitting back in his chair. I stifle a groan.

“You’re awfully anxious to get in my pants, Boots.”

I slump back into the very comfortable chair and cross my arms, shrugging. “You might be terrible in bed,” I admit.

He coughs and that turns into a laugh that he covers with his fist. “Might I?”

I nod, my mood serious. “You might.”

“Your seduction techniques are something, Everly.”

Oh, my God. He’s not denying it. Maybe he has an erectile dysfunction. He’s a premature ejaculator. Or he’s got a micropenis. Or he’s a eunuch. That’d be just my luck, wouldn’t it? Wait, I could feel his erection this afternoon in his office. So scratch those last two worries. Still, so many possibilities. I’ve read articles.

“Do you take any medication?” I blurt out.

He tilts his head and looks at me, “No,” he says, then shakes it slowly. “Do you?”

“Just the pill. But you’re still wearing a condom. I’m not catching any babies from you.” I shudder.

“Assuming I’m able to perform.”

“Yes! Exactly!” Finally we’re on the same page.

“Yet again, I never know what’s going to come out of your mouth.”

Blog Tour & Review: My Perfect Mistake by Kelly Siskind

Siskind_MyPerfectMistake_2

About MY PERFECT MISTAKE

What happens in Aspen is definitely not staying in Aspen . . .

A girls’ trip to Aspen was exactly what Shay needed to forget about her toxic ex-boyfriend. She’s got her girls, pristine slopes for skiing, and hot guys everywhere. Of course, her epic self-rediscovery goes completely to hell when a wild (and deliciously hot) skier knocks Shay on her ass . . . and war is declared.

Kolton doesn’t know what it is about Shay that makes him lose it. Not just his cool—although she does have an unholy gift for that—but his restraint. When anger gives way to explosive chemistry, they’re both shaken with the intensity of it. But somewhere between lust and hate, Kolton and Shay realize they could have something real . . . if they don’t kill each other first.

REVIEW:

Holy angsty hell. If you love a book that gives you heart palpitations and makes you want to shake the characters due to the angst level, then you have found your match! My Perfect Mistake starts with hate fucking – which I adore – and then moves to just angsty stubbornness…which makes for an overall fun read.

I totally loved Kolton. His passion for his son and heartbreaking past had me at the first smile. While he may be dubbed The Asshole by Shay, he’s just really a good guy deep down. He’s not a player. He’s not a fuckwit. He’s protective of his family and friends and he’s terrified of shaking that up.

When Shay collides into Kolton’s life she’s in Full Bitch Mode and she won’t even try to deny it. She’s been controlled by men in the past and she refuses to make that same mistake again. Yet…she takes it a bit too far. Her attempt at independence becomes a quest in obstinance. Her journey is probably the longest to watch, yet she’s still likeable even when she’s being a complete idiot.

Siskind writes a sweet romance and develops her characters well. For those that love classic, easy reads with tons of angst, My Perfect Mistake fits the bill completely. The banter is on point and the storyline keeps you engaged even when you’re contemplating shaking a character to death. However, Kolton’s son was the star for me. I LOVED HIM. He’s funny, unique and completely quirky. Coolest kid ever.

Aspen may be where they began, but they have a lot of hurdles to go through before they reach their final destination. Sweet and sexy, this one gets 4 stars.
