Books: Try, Take, Trust

tl;dr recommendation: Explosive and all consuming – Try, Take and Trust are on my all time favorites list!

Book Summaries:

TRY

Try – verb: to make an attempt or effort to do something or in this case…someone.

Sex. Logan Mitchell loves it, and ever since he realized his raw sexual appeal at a young age, he has had no problem using it to his advantage. Men and women alike fall into his bed—after all, Logan is not one to discriminate. He lives by one motto—if something interests you, why not just take a chance and try?

And he wants to try Tate Morrison.

Just coming out of a four-year marriage with an ex-wife from hell, a relationship is the last thing on Tate’s mind. He’s starting fresh and trying to get back on his feet with a new job at an upscale bar in downtown Chicago.

The only problem is, Tate has caught the unwavering and unwelcome attention of Mr. Logan Mitchell – a regular at the bar and a man who always gets what he wants.

Night after night Tate fends off the persistent advances of the undeniably charismatic man, but after an explosive moment in the bar, all bets are off as he finds his body stirring with a different desire than his mind.

As arrogance, stubbornness and sexual tension sizzles between the two, it threatens to change the very course of their lives.

Logan doesn’t do relationships. Tate doesn’t do men. But what would happen if they both just gave in and…tried?

TAKE

TAKE – verb: to reach for and hold in one’s hands or get into one’s possession, power or control.

Logan Mitchell is a man who’s always been more than happy to take what he wants. It’s a philosophy that’s proven lucrative in both his business and personal life, and never was it more apparent than the night he laid eyes on Tate Morrison. After pulling out all the stops and convincing the sexy bartender to give him a try—he’s hooked.
Now, Logan finds himself in a predicament that demands more from him than a smart-ass answer and his innate ability to walk away when things get too deep.
He has a choice to make, and it’ll force him to do something he’s never done before—take a chance.

Tate Morrison knows all about taking a chance. He took the biggest one of his life the night he showed up at Logan’s apartment to explore his unexpected reaction to the man.
Ever since then, he’s thought about little else.
At first he was convinced his attraction was based solely on his body’s curiosity. But the more time he spends with the silver-tongued lawyer, the more Tate realizes that their physical chemistry is only the beginning.
He’s starting to catch a glimpse of what life with Logan would be like, and it’s one full of excitement and satisfaction—a far cry from what he had in the past with his soon to be ex-wife.

Each man will face their fears as they begin to understand the true meaning of give and take. Their feelings for one another will be tested, as will their very beliefs. But now that they’ve found love where they least expected it, will they be brave enough to reach out and take it?

TRUST

TRUST – verb: to believe in the reliability, truth, or strength of another.

Up until now, Logan Mitchell has never had much of a reason to trust anyone.
Having struggled with a self-identity crisis throughout college, he’s spent the years since then creating a sophisticated facade to present to the world.
It’s an armor he thought was impenetrable—until he met Tate Morrison.
The gorgeous, headstrong bartender he’d sat across from only months ago has taken a tight hold of his heart, and Logan is discovering that it’s time to let go.
It’s time to let someone inside.

After years of placing his dreams on hold for his family, Tate has finally chosen to do what makes him happy and follow his heart.
The one thing he never would’ve imagined was that it would lead him into the arms of a man—and not just any man—the striking, never-takes-no-for-an-answer Logan Mitchell.
Tate has fallen hard, and as his world is turned on its axis and they move forward together, he finds his life becoming more entwined with the confident, successful lawyer.

Even though neither man expected the other, it’s time to trust in their relationship—but not everything comes so easily…

Longer Review:

THIS SERIES IS EVERYTHING. Really. If you’ve never read male/male before, then you need to meet Logan and Tate. They are everything I wanted in a male/male series – and frankly, they’re everything I wanted in a series.

You may think that you know what’s going to happen, but you don’t. I was pleasantly surprised with how Tate reacted to his newfound feelings for Logan and more than excited to see Logan’s determined nature push Tate (but never force). These two have so much chemistry the kindle practically bubbled over.

There’s also an insane amount of sex. I mean, they seriously can’t sleep that much they fuck so frequently BUT I’M NOT COMPLAINING. The buckles get undone and the cocks come out to play often, but their emotions actually do get the most traction. Frank does a fantastic job of making you feel what they’re feeling. You begin to hope, you get crushed, you rise *ahem* to the occasion along with the characters.

Did this really need to be three books? Probably not. But did I really care? NOPE. I was locked into the world of Logan and Tate and never wanted to leave. This is one of those series that will stay with you long after you read it. They are hands down now one of my favorite couples ever.

Get your lube out and prepared for Logan and Tate to give you a new experience you’ll never forget. Explosive and all consuming – Try, Take and Trust are on my all time favorites list!

Review: The Breed – Nora’s Choice by Alice K. Wayne

51cwk74l7ll-_sx331_bo1204203200_

Author: Alice K. Wayne

Book: The Breed – Nora’s Choice

tl;dr recommendation: This is PNR crack. Get it. Love it. READ IT. 5 stars.

Book Summary:

*Warning: This book is the second book in a series, and must be read second. This book contains strong sexual content and graphic violence and is not suitable for persons under 18*

Nora is a fiery independent beauty with an attitude cold enough to freeze any man’s heart. Any Man except Quinn Roberts; the Breed’s newest and most vicious weapon as the war against the Hunters, who is hell bent on making his mate see what their love could be.
With each of them bearing the scars of a brutal past, will the bond they share be enough to heal them, or with war and bloodshed encircling them, will their bond be destroyed before it even has a chance to begin?

Longer Review:

After finishing book one I dove headfirst into Nora’s Choice. Casstiel’s Vow was like an amuse bousche….a little tease – and I WANTED MORE. Thankfully, Alice gave me more. Nora’s Choice is an emotional rollercoaster that left me satiated and more than pleased. Of course, since this is a SERIES, I was also left with questions…BUT I DIGRESS.

Nora’s been through a lot in her existence. She’s a werewolf but not by choice. Which brings up a shit ton of issues for her. She’s been damaged. Hurt. Emotionally cut off. Her standoffish nature isn’t because she was coddled, that’s for damn sure. And then Quinn walks into her life – or, well, technically she meets him in the sewer. Romantic, right? 😉

She may have found her mate, but what she’s really found is the biggest challenge of her life. While she’s not interested in anything having to do with a mate except for maybe the mating, Quinn isn’t discouraged. He’s been through hell too and he sees more in Nora than just a warm body. He sees everything.

Oh shit, get ready. You had your fangs in book one and now it’s time to learn how the werewolves get down. AND IT’S GREAT. I was completely sucked back into The Breed world and was dying for Nora and Quinn to get over their issues and just work is out. I cannot wait to see where this series goes! This is PNR crack. Get it. Love it. READ IT. 5 stars.

Review: The Breed – Casstiel’s Vow by Alice K. Wayne

51mhq4nhexl-_sx331_bo1204203200_

Author: Alice K. Wayne

Book: The Breed – Casstiel’s Vow

tl;dr recommendation: I WANT TO MAKE PARANORMAL BABIES WITH ALICE K. WAYNE. 5 stars!

Book Summary:

*Warning: This book contains strong sexual content and graphic violence, it is not suitable for persons under the age of 18.

After the brutal kidnapping of her brother, Tessa Roberts, a human born with the ability to read other human minds, plunges herself into the dark and mysterious world of the Breed, hell bent on finding him. What she encounters however, is far more than she bargained for. Vampires and werewolves are one race known as the Breed, and are locked in a centuries old war against vicious human Hunters. With the help of Casstiel, the fierce leader of the Breed’s defense team who carries a fiery passion for her, can she find her brother before the war erupts on their doorstep? Or will lies and betrayals end the new life she’s forged for herself, along with the lives of everyone she loves?

Longer Review:

A good friend of mine gave me a paperback of this book because she knows that I LOVE PNR. Especially PNR that has bonding, instalove when you find your mate, tons of sex, and vampires and werewolves. THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL. I mean, Jesus. It’s like my PNR wishes were granted in one series.

Casstiel is a hot, sexy vampire who has been dreaming about an elusive woman for YEARS. He’s never known her name, and has only known her touch. She feels as real to him as any other woman he’s ever slept with – but she’s so much more to him. When the real woman walks into his office he nearly tackles her to the floor and marks her right there.

Yet, she’s human. Not only is she human but she’s looking for her brother who was probably kidnapped by Breed members and is in trouble. Well, fuck. Subtlety and patience has never been in Casstiel’s box of character traits, but he manages to conjure it up for Tessa.

This book has the suspense you expect from a great PNR story, and the heat you crave. The air crackles with sexual tension while the search continues for Tessa’s brother…and the truth. I WANT TO MAKE PARANORMAL BABIES WITH ALICE K. WAYNE. Not kidding. I maybe told her that on the interwebs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This story clutches you hard to the pages and had me racing to read the end. It got me all hot and bothered too. Write all the things, Alice! So excited to find this author and this series! Vampires, werewolves, special powers, shifting, bonding, mating, hot motherfucking sex – YES YES YES YES. Go one-click now. 5 stars!

Review: Last Kiss by Laurelin Paige

51aardsvb2l-_sx332_bo1204203200_

Author: Laurelin Paige

Book: Last Kiss

tl;dr recommendation: Last Kiss won’t be the last thing I read from Laurelin Paige. 5 stars.

Book Summary:

A GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE FILLED WITH DARK DESIRES AND DANGEROUS SECRETS…

Emily Wayborn has made a decision.

She might not fully trust handsome and deadly Reeve Sallis, but he is the one person that gives her what she needs. With Reeve she can finally be herself. Submitting to him is the only thing keeping her grounded as the rest of her life falls apart. But the hotelier is a master at keeping secrets and as she continues her quest for answers someone is making sure she doesn’t find them.

Time is running out and she is questioning everything she thought she knew about friendship and love. She must now make an impossible choice that will determine if she will survive with her heart…or her life.

Longer Review:

Reading Last Kiss was like holding your breath underwater. You wanted to know how long you could last without coming up for air – and let me tell you, I tested my capacity. If you thought First Touch had you holding on to your seat, Last Kiss has you gasping at every corner while the words sunk into your soul.

By far one of the most mind thrilling books I’ve read, this series is a dark erotic thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. I have to admit though, while Amber drove me absolutely bat shit crazy, so did Emily. GAH EMILY. You will want to shake her harder than you’ve ever wanted to shake a fictional character in your life. She’s sort of like that friend who continues to make bad decisions but who you love and support anyway, because you get her.

Reeve doesn’t leave any doubt to who is the most bad ass, fucking awesome, anti hero in Romancelandia. Although, he turns more into a hero Hero in this book – BUT NO SPOILERS. He’s everything you want him to be. I know I was nervous as hell when I finished First Touch – there are so many questions…so many nuances…so much that can happen with how Laurelin set up this story. And she gives you all the answers. They may not be the answers you want. You may feel the storms of jealousy brew in your stomach and begin to ferment. You may want to obtain a degree in Speed Readers University so that you can just finish the damn thing and get every answer you want.

Regardless of how you feel as to how everything shakes out, Laurelin creates a world of dark desire that I didn’t want to step away from. This book is that word that I hate, but must use here: Unputdownable. Make some time and grab a drink – Last Kiss won’t be the last thing I read from Laurelin Paige. 5 stars.

Synopsis

Jack

For the last ten years, I’ve roamed the globe, captivated by the world around me. I’ve seen the seven wonders and admired sunsets from every continent. I’d lived and loved and that was enough for me. It would have to be.

I was content, satisfied with my collection of experiences . . . until a phone call led me down a road less traveled.

If I’d known my fascination would pique and be forever quenched only a few hundred miles from where my curiosity had been born, I may have never set sail.

Rose

Stripped of the future I’d planned with the love of my life, my family and my career were now all that mattered. I’d lived and loved and that was enough. It would have to be.

I struggled to move forward, to discard the part of me that held out hope for my obliterated heart. But I was bred a romantic, so it was easier said than done.

The chances of being struck by lightning are 1 in 960,000.

The odds of being struck twice are 1 in 9 million.

I risked those odds every minute, often cursing the dark sky, praying for static and a rumble of thunder, but it never came.

No, that second bolt hit me on a clear day.

The Heart can be read as a stand alone but it is HIGHLY recommended you read the first two books in the series first.

REVIEW

God. What a book. Kate delivers a heartwarming and heart wrenching conclusion to Rose’s story in the The Heart and rips yours out in the process. There are books that work their way into your soul, hold you hostage and leave an imprint – The Heart is one of them.

I knew that I wouldn’t be the same after knowing Rose’s story – she was perfect with Grant and Grant was perfect and everything they had was a fairytale story book love…so what happens when that vanishes? What happens when everything you thought you believed in is pulled from your grasp?

Rose isn’t so sure about romance anymore. She knows that she had a once-in-a-lifetime love with Grant and she’s terrified that she’ll never love anyone more than Grant. She’s also terrified that she will. GOD. This book. Totally cried. I mean, not all the way through – I’m not really a crier. But towards the end the feelings snuck up on me, hit me hard and then ran out of my eyes.

The Heart is a must read, hold on to your emotions, GRAB THIS NOW book. #Swooning. 5 stars.

Review: Quinn I by JC Cliff

Author: JC Cliff

Book: Quinn I

tl;dr recommendation: Book 1 gets 4.5 stars for heat, suspense and lots of nature fucking.

Book Summary:

You have been warned – Explicit scenes, unexpected twists full of suspense and off the grid angst which skirt along the edges of the dark side will make your heart pound, your pulse race, and the pages flip. And…be prepared to be thrown over a damn cliff.

Fearless and determined, Quinn is the perfect man for the job the Moretti mob has in mind: track down missing mafia princess, Alexis Moretti, and bring her home.

What starts out as a simple task to repay an old debt turns into so much more than he bargained for… And so does she.

As Quinn and Lexi grow close, she becomes more than just his mission. But Lexi and Quinn are both keeping secrets–secrets that could destroy their blossoming romance just as quickly as it ignited. When Lexi’s past catches up with them, secrets and lies will be revealed, and the ultimate test of forgiveness will be upon them both.

*Join Quinn and Alexis as their story unfolds in two full-length contemporary erotic romance novels. Quinn II will release April 19th!

Longer Review:

Exhilarating, suspenseful and erotic. I’m a huge fan of nature. I’m also a huge fan of sex. When you combine those with a suspenseful story where you’re not quite sure who’s the good guy and who’s playing who – you get seriously hot sex in the woods filled with tension that could practically burst on site.

Quinn is an alpha male you’ll love to call your next book boyfriend. He’s sweet and calm in a storm – but he’s utterly dangerous when crossed. Granted, he would never cross Alexis. What starts as a job quickly turns into much more.

Quinn’s always been a playboy – he fucks anything that moves (well, any HOT thing that moves) and he’s never looked to settle down. When he’s hired by Alexis’ father to recover her from some crazy runaway attempt, he thinks nothing of it…until he sees her. Suddenly everything changes.

I was dying over the secrets. DYING. If I could have screamed at the characters to unload their secrets on each other, I would have. Because SERIOUSLY. It made for some delicious tension though – and when they do come clean, everything is perfect…until it isn’t. Yes, that’s super vague BUT THIS IS A CLIFFHANGER. so be forewarned.

There’s a lot more at play here than what meets the eye – so go in and get ready to have your head fucked a little while you watch two very unlikely lovers fall for each other. Book 1 gets 4.5 stars for heat, suspense and lots of nature fucking.

Review: One With You by Sylvia Day

17876897

Author: Sylvia Day

Book: One With You

tl;dr recommendation: the passion is on point and the rest was just clutter. One With You gets 3.5 stars. Gideon gets a million.

Book Summary:

Gideon Cross. Falling in love with him was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. It happened instantly. Completely. Irrevocably.

Marrying him was a dream come true. Staying married to him is the fight of my life. Love transforms. Ours is both a refuge from the storm and the most violent of tempests. Two damaged souls entwined as one.

We have bared our deepest, ugliest secrets to one another. Gideon is the mirror that reflects all my flaws … and all the beauty I couldn’t see. He has given me everything. Now, I must prove I can be the rock, the shelter for him that he is for me. Together, we could stand against those who work so viciously to come between us.

But our greatest battle may lie within the very vows that give us strength. Committing to love was only the beginning. Fighting for it will either set us free … or break us apart.

Longer Review:

I might cry a little bit. That’s a perfectly acceptable response to finishing a book series, right? I mean, flipping through the last page, sighing and then falling into almost hysterics because The Series has ended.

I’m going to try to be objective about my review, which is really motherfucking hard because this is Gideon we’re talking about. THE GIDEON CROSS. The man that all other book boyfriends are compared to.

If Gideon wasn’t in this book, would I have loved it? ehhhhhh probably not. Yet, Gideon is everything. I feel that Sylvia had a huge task to write this book. The fans of this series are rabid and loyal. I’m one of them. Did Gideon disappoint? Hell no. He was the star of this book. He was EVERYTHING.

But the rest of it? ehhhh. There were things that happened in the book that I didn’t think were necessary. I won’t give you spoilers, but I was just like ‘WHAT!?’ It made it seem like she was just trying to fill the pages rather than organically tell the story. There was seriously no need for some of it. And then the fact that the one thing I really wanted to see never came to fruition totally bummed me out. The ending was not one that I loved. I just didn’t. There were a lot of things that felt unresolved. I didn’t get all of the answers that I wanted and the drama that she had spent FOUR BOOKS building up fell flat…because the story just basically let these issues go.

The twists in this book felt a little more like yields. While they were surprising in so much that I was surprised that they happened, my reaction was more of an ‘okkkkkk….AND?’ rather than a ‘OH. HOLY SHIT THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE.’ See the difference?

The only part of this story that I truly loved was Gideon and Eva and their journey together. I loved how far they came. I loved watching them together. I loved that Eva grew a pair of lady balls and stood up for Gideon when it was necessary. I loved their romance. I loved their passion. I LOVED THEM. The rest of it didn’t blow me away.

So the verdict is that the passion is on point and the rest was just clutter. One With You gets 3.5 stars. Gideon gets a million.

Review: Absolution by Stevie J. Cole and LP Lovell

51qb28euuml-_sx332_bo1204203200_

Authors: Stevie J. Cole & LP Lovell

Book: Absolution

tl;dr recommendation:

Book Summary:

***NOTE: This book is VERY dark. Please take that into account before reading. ***

Evie

All sins are equal in the eyes of God, but I’m not God. One sinner made me his sin, and I can’t let men like him live. I want to kill them. Every. Last. One.
Ezra James is no different. I was going to kill him, but then I found myself obsessed and possessed in the most reverent of ways. I became his sinner, and he became my sin, but the wages of sin is death, so I must kill him.

Ezra

The son of a whore, raised by criminals, molded to fit into a world without morals. I’ve never given a shit about anything until the night I watched a man drop dead at the feet of my little killer. She called to my depravity, and everything in me demanded that I take her, possess her, own her. Some monsters hide behind the faces of angels.

Damned. Broken. Irredeemable.

Through blood, absolution shall be found.

Longer Review:

This is the most fucked up book I have EVER READ. This is more fucked up than that time I read Feminist Fantasies for funsies. This is so motherfucking dark you need to read with a flashlight. AND I LOVED IT.

Some people say that ‘ohhhh this book is dark, head the warning.’ No no. NO. NO. I’ve read some of those books and yes, they have dark elements. But this is like a magical fucked up world of dark where everything is Level Lunatic, killing is ok (sort of, just don’t do it in Ezra’s back seat), and yet you’re still rooting for the main characters to fall in love.

Absolution is sort of like Kill Bill but in romance form. But it’s fucking brilliant. The way in which these two authors have worked out the storyline, connected all the dots, made you understand Evie’s religion and Ezra’s soulless affliction…everything made sense when nothing made sense. For that, I loved them. Reading this was like falling into the deepest pits of yourself and wondering why you’re so goddamn depraved when you liked it.

I, for one, shrugged. I liked it because the writing was outstanding and the story kept me hooked. This is original, outstanding and out of control hot. Somehow even when Ezra is owning Evie – causing her intense pain – you’re just a little turned on…because Evie wants it. She needs it. You want her to best Ezra. You almost want her to kill him. But then you don’t. Because she loves him.

I can’t explain this book except to say that you absolutely have to step out of your pretty, shiny, good looking comfort zone and thrust yourself into this book. One of the most unique and best written books I’ve ever read. and it’s crazytown. 5 stars. Loved.

Man hands take sexy woman buttocks in lingerie isolated

Blurb:

Being engaged to Alex Waters, team captain and the highest paid NHL player in the league, is awesome. How could it not be?

In addition to being an amazing hockey player, he’s an incurable romantic with an XL heart, and an XXL hockey stick in his pants. And he knows how to use it. Incredibly, orgasmically well. Alex is the whole package and more. Literally. Like his package is insane. Total world record holder material.

So it makes complete sense that Violet Hall can’t wait to nail him down to the matrimonial mattress and become Mrs. Violet Waters.

It’s so romantic.

Violet is totally stoked to set a date.

Eventually. At some point. Likely before the next millennium. Or when Violet stops getting hives every time someone brings up the wedding, and their mothers stop colluding on stadium sized venues. Whichever comes first.

Profile portrait of businessman working on laptop in black suit at studio

REVIEW:

If you haven’t read this series yet, then get yourself out from under your romancelandia rock and pick it up. It’s laugh-out-loud funny that will make you actually LAUGH OUT LOUD instead of just typing LOL in your review. Violet is back with her zany, out of control, ridiculous antics that cover up her sensitive side. She’s witty, smart and incredibly inappropriate. We’re friends.

Alex is the same alpha male that belies a softer side whenever he’s near Violet. They’re like planets that rotate around each other and warm each other’s hearts…and bodies. There’s a lot of warming of bodies in this book. Even with all of the drama – that you will thankfully be able to handle – there is absolutely no doubt that Alex and Violet love each other with their whole selves. Super MC and The Beave also love each other. Lots. AND LOTS.

There’s hockey and hotness and more Super MC outfits that you’re dying to read about. There’s even a Things My Dick Does reference!! If that’s not enough to get you read this book I don’t know what will.

I got pucked HARD. and I liked it. 5 stars!

Release Blitz & Review: The Fire Between High & Lo by Brittainy C. Cherry

Title: The Fire Between High & Lo
Series: Romance Elements #2
Author: Brittainy C. Cherry
Genre: Romance
 Release Date: March 25, 2016

Blurb
There once was a boy, and I loved him.Logan Francis Silverstone and I were complete opposites. I danced, and he stood still. He was quiet, while I ran my mouth. He struggled to find a smile, and I refused to frown.

The night I saw the darkness that truly lived inside of him, I couldn’t look away.

We were broken together, yet somehow whole. We were wrong together, but always right. We were the stars that burned across the night sky, searching for a wish, praying for better tomorrows.

Until the day I lost him. He threw us away with one hasty decision–a decision that changed us forever.

There once was a boy, and I loved him.

And for a few breaths, a few whispers, a few moments, I think he loved me, too.

 REVIEW:

Of course I cried. Brittainy has a way with words that scorch your insides and bring out all the feels. This book most definitely does that. It rolls emotions through you – from anger to flat out hatred to love; The Fire Between High & Lo put me into a state of emotional turmoil I was expecting.

Logan is not a character you’re going to stay in love with. At least he wasn’t for me. His flaws are big. His scars are deep. And his actions are reprehensible. The way that he treated Alyssa and the good pieces of his family was awful. I hated him for it. It’s very likely because I have personal experience with his particular affliction that taints my opinion of him. Makes him less redeemable. Makes me less sympathetic. Makes me colder to his journey.

But that doesn’t mean that the story isn’t beautiful. Logan grows as a character and does win you back over. He journey is long but it’s worth reading. I did wish that Alyssa had a little bit more fire in her. That she didn’t give in so easily and forgive so quickly. But then again, when a true love flashes through your life, do you give it up so quickly when there’s a chance for good again?

Cherry writes this book in a somewhat Ugly Love style – it was almost poetic in places, which nestles its way into your chest and makes a home. This book will definitely make you react: cry, laugh, scream, smile – it’s all there. It’s a beautiful story edged in darkness. It’s a story about how the good can win after all. 4.5 stars!
