Review:

Foster and EJ: two fuck buddies turned more? nope. not that simple.

I’m pretty sure if the couch wasn’t nearby when I read the end of this book that I would have injured myself from swooning so goddamn hard. Foster is 100% full of all things that I find completely adorable. He’s geek-chic with his glasses and superhero t-shirts and massive brain that’s full of chemistry related jargon and facts. There’s a substantial amount of nerdy-talking that had me clutching my kindle with one hand. Cause, uhh, the other one was busy.

EJ is a funny, sarcastic and snarky girl who desperately wants to break free from the mold that she was born into. Her mother makes attempting to marry her off a sport, and while her father is less mentally abusive, he still isn’t supportive of her true passion: art. She’s an art history major only because she never would have heard the end of it if she was just an ‘art’ major. She’s not looking for love – she’s just looking to survive.

So when EJ walks into her part-time job at the library and meets Foster, the co-worker, she’s happy to let him be just that: a co-worker. Of course, when a hilarious drinking game full of nerdspeak leads to fucking (in all fairness, I would have jumped him after that too), their new friendship takes a turn….and then another turn…

I love that they both attempt to navigate around the huge bag of awkward that follows them everywhere they go. Their relationship is adorably perfect, even when neither of them has any idea of what they’re doing. There’s a real relationship and quite a few twists and turns to hold you captive to this story – there’s even an inspirational piece that will make you feel so good inside in addition to the romance. Self-discovery, relationship fumbles, and great plot full of orgasms are all present here – and it’s SO GOOD. 4.5 stars!

Blue Teaser

Review:

This review is going to be a mixed bag. I know that some people are going to absolutely fall over themselves to love this book and I’ll tell you why: beauty meets beast, but she sees past the marred skin and into his soul. Honestly, that’s what drew me into wanting to read this book. I am a complete and utter sucker for these types of stories. Probably because The Beauty and The Beast is my favorite disney movie. Ever. Oh, how childhood shapes us. ANYWAY…

I was super into this book if for nothing more than Blue’s hilarious inner monologue and tough-girl antics. She’s strong, tough and knows what she wants. I love that in a female lead character. I was equally as in love with Tuck: brooding, mysterious and reserved. His scars went more than skin deep, but Blue’s love and focus on peeling back his layers to reveal his beautiful heart had me soaring. There’s something about the connection between someone “pure” loving someone “tainted” for all the right reasons that calls to my soul. Anyway, now that we’re getting all philosophical, this book has that in spades. AND I LOVED THAT. The love story between Blue and Tuck was full of anticipation and weakened my knees.

But then there’s the problem with the ending. Things were happening, crazy was going down and then it all just warped speed ahead and then I was reading the epilogue. say whaaa? A whole lot of insanity was crammed into the end of this book like my suitcase on the way home from vacation. I had to sit on the damn thing to make it close. That was the ending of this book for me. Which really sucked, because I loved everything else about it. But you can’t skip over the hard parts of the book like they didn’t even happen and expect me not to notice.

Overall, it’s a beautiful love story that captivated me until the end when I became a little lost and frazzled. 3 stars.

Review: My Clarity by M. Clarke

Author: M. Clarke

Book: My Clarity

tl;dr recommendation: Loved the build up, disliked the cliched flowery sentiments. 3 stars

Book Summary:

Still reeling from the death of her father, Alexandria hopes to find both independence and reprieve from her grief by heading off to college. However, life throws her a serious curveball when she discovers that her roommate isn’t quite the person she had imagined.

Smoking, tattoos, and street racing for fast cash are Elijah’s only interests. A harsh life has made him apathetic and indifferent, until Alexandria enters his life. When their paths cross, turmoil abounds.

An inevitable encounter, an undeniable attraction, and an unexpected chance at love—will it be enough?

** This is a New Adult romance novel recommended for ages 18+
due to sexual content and mature subject matter.**

Longer Review:

Alex is a good girl – she’s never done anything crazy in her life, she loves her father immensely, and she’s about to embark on her first bout of independence at college. Unfortunately her father passes away from lung cancer three months before she leaves. To put it lightly, she’s devastated, but she’s going to try to live the life she promised her father that she would.

She moves into an off campus apartment as a freshman (not entirely believable, but ok) and she thinks she’s going to be living with a girl – Ellie…but when the truth comes out that Ellie is really Elijah, she’s not totally phased. She’s going to make it work, because that’s what she does. Even though he’s hot as hell and she turns to mush when he looks at her. Elijah’s a mass of contradictions. He may look tough, but he’s covering his own sordid tale of disappointment and tragedy.

The build up and anticipation between Elijah and Alex were the best damn parts of this book….Milk and cookies may never have the same innocent meaning again. That scene was fucking HOT. This is the quintessential bad boy falls in love with a good girl and tries to change his ways for her trope. It’s pretty good, and actually reminded me a lot of my very Maddox brother (without the temper). There was a lot of sweet interaction between them and increased attraction with each page. When they finally realize they belong together I was practically salivating…

But then it got pretty cheesy. There were a lot of cliched phrases tossed around and it became pretty unbelievable. At that point I really liked them, but damnit it if didn’t gag a little at the over the top flowery sentiments. Overall, it’s a sweet NA novel that will satisfy your craving. 3 Stars.

Dax Davies has one job to fulfill in the Davies household. Earn money at the family business. The problem is that the family business was illegal underground fighting.

From a young age, Dax and his brothers are groomed to become money earners in their father’s club. Broken bones and bruises are commonplace. Their father pits the brothers against each other to ‘toughen them up’ for the ring, using his rules to bend his sons to his will. His future is in the cage, not on stage where he dreams of making music.

Kate Campbell loves one thing in life. Well, two. Soccer and Dax Davies. Growing up in the poorest part of London, soccer is her personal escape from reality and from the fact that Dax doesn’t seem to know she exists. She figures if she can be good enough at soccer, maybe she can get away from Hackney, and leave the poverty behind.

Kate doesn’t plan on ever getting to know Dax as more than a passing acquaintance. In fact, she isn’t meant to go with her friend to Dax’s father’s business, but that one night changes everything.

Review:

sigh. daxdaxdax.

This book had me holding back tears. Kate and Dax’s journey is more complex than simple love should ever be. Somehow this NA novel turns into a contemporary romance and leaves you in a puddle of happiness. There’s a lot of heartbreak in this one, and a lot of time jumping but it’s done well.

It’s like a fighter book combined with a rockstar book. I mean, who doesn’t love each of those?! Combining them is perfection. Dax is one confused kid/teen/man. His father trained him to follow certain rules. To hide his emotions. To be a fighter. Accept his rewards. Treat slags like slags. But when he sees Kate – I mean, finally SEES her – he realizes that he wants more. He wants the normal life the he doesn’t think that he can have. But that’s all destroyed one afternoon when Kate walks in on a moment that Dax doesn’t ever want her to see.

I disliked Kate’s lack of self-esteem but I really enjoyed watching her growth and journey. She goes through a lot in this book that no one should have to deal with. She’s been in love with Dax for years – ever since they were little kids – and when he finally kisses her it’s like the world melts away. But what happens when real life gets in the way? When their paths take different directions, Kate and Dax are forced to face the strength of their relationship.

Dax is not only hot as hell, but when he finally lets some emotions come through he becomes even more gorgeous. I loved the ups and downs, and the love in this story. 4.25 stars!

Excerpt:

Dax and Kate’s 1st kiss. Kate’s POV.

Before I can blink, Dax’s huge, calloused hands are framing my face and his mouth brushes across mine. At first it’s just a whisper, a tease, the contact barely there. Then, I hear him inhale sharply and his lips press down forcefully, melding with mine, urging me to open up with quick flicks of his tongue. I melt against his solid body as he dominates the kiss, completely under his spell to do with as he wishes. It seems to go on and on—a small slice of paradise in this blighted spot of East London.

When he finally pulls back, greedily stealing a few more nips at my mouth, he closes his eyes and moans. “I knew you’d taste like heaven. You’re an angel, I just knew it.” His voice is so quiet I wonder if he meant to say it out loud.

Naturally, I stand there like an idiot, saying nothing… doing nothing. I’ve been kissed into complete stupidity.

Dax swipes the pad of his thumb over my damp lips. “See you at school tomorrow.” Without giving me a single hint of what he’s thinking, he turns and leaves. I touch my mouth, running a finger over the same spot Dax touched. My heart leaps into my throat, fluttering so fast I fear it may explode.

Great. I’m ruined. My first kiss and it was nothing less than brilliant. Dax Davies just ruined me for every other man from now until the day I die.

Review: 21 Stolen Kisses by Lauren Blakely

Author: Lauren Blakely

Book: 21 Stolen Kisses

tl;dr recommendation: I think age play is a hard limit for me, but Lauren’s writing is impeccable. SO CONFLICTED.

Book Summary:

When I first met him I resisted.
Like any forbidden love, I told myself he was a crush, and it would pass.
That was a lie. It never faded.

And I never expected he would fall for me just as hard.

There were so many reasons that should have kept us apart, least of all, the decade that separated us. Growing up in New York City, I learned early on that love is a double-edged sword. Love broke up my parents, love took away my friends, and love — the big, intense, never-been-like-this-before love — landed me in therapy. Now I’m heading to college, and it’s time to give love a clean slate again. But, can I really start over when he’s still in my life Because the one man I’ve always wanted, is also the only guy I absolutely can’t have…And he wants me just as fiercely.

Can I settle for anything less than the love of my life?

Longer Review:

I am so utterly and completely conflicted. Stay with me here. From a completely objective standpoint, this book is great. It’s well written, it has beautifully developed characters, it contains themes spread throughout the book that connect with each other – it’s just a good fucking book. Lauren makes writing look easy. If I were an editor, I’d snatch this book up in an instant.

However, from a subjective standpoint, I really struggled with this one – and as a reader, I can’t say that I loved it.

Before you slaughter me, hear me out. This is an NA book, so if you’re expecting the explicitly delicious blakelyesque dirty talking sex scenes, you will be disappointed. Those scenes do not exist in this book. I wasn’t looking for them though, I swear.

I knew they wouldn’t be there, and I do love many NA books, so why did it take me FIVE DAYS to read this book? Because the age thing really bothered me. It just did. I’d be lying if I said anything else. Spoiler (or comforting?) alert: the characters do nothing inappropriate; the age of consent in NY is seventeen – so even if they wanted to get some serious action on, they could.

Yet, the age difference of seventeen to twenty-five made me cringe. She’s a senior in high school and he spent time with her since she was in at least 9th grade. *cringe* He looks at her mother as his surrogate mother *cringe* The gifts he gives her are representative of her – but they’re really juvenile *cringe*

So thus, I was cringing until I hit 90% in the book. I shouldn’t have a problem with it. I shouldn’t. My husband and I are six years apart. Of course, I didn’t meet him until I was 21, so there’s that.

I have been having a serious internal personal struggle over why this particular trope bothers me so damn much. Because, let’s be honest – I have forgiven some seriously inappropriate behavior in books. Semi-stalking? Verbal abuse? Caveman style antics? ALL FORGIVEN. So why, when I’m presented with perhaps one of the most adorable, sweet, kind, LOVING men am I blanching? I don’t know.

OK. so moving away from my serious hangups for which I may need to seek counseling, the book is otherwise fantastic. Noah is a wonderful character who shows so much restraint I started to get concerned for his health. It cannot be advisable to walk around with blue balls for hours at a time. It just can’t. Kennedy is young, and while she is most certainly an old soul, she is still a bit immature. She’s been groomed to lie and while she’s trying to break out of that habit, it’s tough.

I completely fell for the love quotes that are scattered throughout the book, and the ‘found hearts’ made my heart squeeze. Lauren has a way with words that makes you think that they just appeared on the page with little to no effort, but I know differently. She is a master storyteller. Even with all of my difficulties, I really loved the characters.

So, overall, I have to give this one a 3.75; it’s a compromise for my struggle combined with the beauty of the story. It most certainly is a forbidden love story – can you handle it?

Blog Tour & Review: Fair Game by Monica Murphy

Happy Book Birthday, Monica Murphy!

Title: Fair Game
Series Name: The Rules Series
Author Name: Monica Murphy
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Cover Designer: Sarah Hansen, Okay Creations

FAIR GAME (The Rules Series, Book 1) May 12, 2015

Bad enough Jade Frost’s boyfriend drags her to a boring poker game. Even worse that he actually threw her into the betting pot during an intense round…and lost. Talk about the perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend.

Now she supposedly belongs to the ultra rich, extremely gorgeous Shep Prescott. He could have anything he wants yet he seems to be in hot pursuit of her. No matter how rude, how snarky, how impossible she acts, it doesn’t stop him. More like her horrible behavior seems to make him want her more.

When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade’s confused. There’s more to Shep than the carefree rich charmer he portrays. No way could he want a serious relationship with her…or could he?

 Review:

THIS IS SO FANTASTICALLY GOOD. Monica, I’d like to crawl inside your brain, in the most non creepy way possible, and just hang out for a little while. I totally love these characters, and Shep makes it on the list of one of my favorite book boyfriends to date. That’s seriously saying something. His inner turmoil and man-boy reactions are so endearing and sweet. I absolutely adored him when he admitted his faults. His charm didn’t just affect Jade – it travels straight through the pages.

Bitch Face Jade made me laugh and smile. I loved that she had a resting Bitch Face. I understand, I have it too. DON’T JUDGE US. Her sarcasm is spot-on and makes for some great banter back and forth with Shep. She’s unafraid to say it like it is, but she’s also freaking out on the inside when it comes to the important stuff. She puts on a front, but Shep sees right through it. He strives to break down her walls, and I was completely on board with that plan.

I have to admit that the blurb didn’t sell me. Not at all. I sort of hated it. The thought of a guy winning (or even betting) on a girl in a poker game made me cringe. But then I started reading it and I was immediately proven wrong. It’s nothing like that – I mean it is, but the thought that Jade would ever be sold in a fucking poker game? It’s so laughable. So basically, don’t let that dissuade you – it’s not what you think. It’s so much better.

Fair Game is full of  arrogance, confidence, relationship blunders, new experiences, & snarky banter. AND I LOVE IT SO HARD. It’s new adult, but heavy on the sex, which means it’s a great read. 4.5 stars!

Review: The Resolution of Callie & Kayden by Jessica Sorenson

Author: Jessica Sorenson

Book: The Resolution of Callie & Kayden (Book #6)

Other Books in Series:

The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden  (Book #1)
The Redemption of Callie & Kayden (Book #2)
The Destiny of Violet & Luke (Book #3)
The Probability of Violet & Luke (Book #4)
The Certainty of Violet & Luke (Book #5)

tl;dr recommendation: Great series and I really enjoyed it, but wanted a little more to the ending.

Book Summary:

Things are well for Callie and Kayden. They’re still dealing with their past and the pain connected to it, but for the most part they’ve moved on. The biggest decision they have at the moment is what they want to do with their lives in the future.

Eventually, though, the past catches up with them and they’re left facing tough choices. But Callie and Kayden learn that as long as they have each other, they can make it through just about anything. And in the end, they discover what they really want out of life.

Longer Review:

Finally, I received an ending I wanted – although could I have gotten an epilogue? ahhhh, I guess the sign of a good series is when my greedy self keeps begging for more.

Callie & Kayden are finally together and are trying to make their lives work. Is this relationship it for both of them? Are they moving forward together as a couple or is Kayden still tied to the darkness of his past?

The two of them experience painful life events together and try to figure out how to deal with things in their new reality: where they share their feelings and stay open to each other. Somehow when they’re together, things work; yet, when they’re apart, the physical space amplifies any emotional space that either of them may feel. It’s this struggle that has them floundering in their newborn, yet deep, relationship. I was cheering so hard for them to come out on top.

While they both have grown, Callie has exceeded my expectations. Her strength is needed here though as Kayden looks to her for comfort and solace. Callie takes Kayden on a sweet walk down memory lane, which was nice and I overall really enjoyed this conclusion for the couple. I was internally complaining a little bit as there appeared to be a lot of repeated information in his book that we already knew from the others. Duh, I’m aware, I sat through the first two parts of their story – I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t.

Overall, this series is wonderfully written and completely captivating. It’s most definitely worth reading!

Excerpt

Stepping into the warm water with her, I need her like I need my next breath. I snake my arms around her and pull her to me. I can’t stop the groan that comes out when her wet skin hits mine. I’m a guy; I know all about showers. However, a shower with Liane is beyond my wildest fantasies. Our tongues come together as I step us backwards and press her gently into the wall, hoping it’s not cold. She doesn’t make a sound, so she either doesn’t care or it’s warm enough. I smooth her wet hair away from her face as I deepen our kiss, tilting my head so I can tell her everything I want with my mouth.

She moans, her hands finding me and making my eyes roll in my head. Yeah, this entire night is going to be what saves me for the next few months, thinking about all of this right here. I slow down our kiss and pull away, putting my lips at her ears. “Wanna race?” I tease. I love playing with her; it’s one of my favorite things to do.

“Race?” She looks at me, a gleam in her eye. “We’re starting a new kind of race?” Her hands are still caressing me, and I can barely form words at the sensation.

“Yeah,” I mutter, putting my hands over hers so she will stop for a second. “We’ve raced our whole lives, right? It’s part of who we are. So why not have a race now?”

“What are we racing to?” She looks me up and down, her eyes stopping at the evidence of my desire for her.

I lean over and whisper in her ear, and she giggles, looking up at me with wide eyes. “Really? And what does the winner—or loser—get?”

I wink at her. “The winner gets to pick the next location.” She gets exactly what I mean, and I see the competitive gleam come into her eye.

“Well, let the best man—or in this case, woman—win,” she says. All I know is, I’m not losing because I already have the grand prize. Her.

Couple Holding Hands

Excerpt

The first thing I notice is that the man is seriously beautiful. His body is cut and sculpted like he spends hours a day in the gym, and even in the dim light from the pool deck, I can tell he’s tan. His board shorts hang low on his hips, and the defined cuts of muscle on his chest and abs is enough to send women running to him and dropping at his feet. Had I been a single woman, he would definitely be my type. My eyes lift past his impeccable body to the face and head that’s attached, and that’s when my heart completely stops. I must’ve gasped out loud, because I feel Mia turn and look at me as he gets closer.

I feel my mouth drop open as his eyes meet mine for the first time in years. “Blake.” He stops in his tracks, both of us staring at each other for what seems like every moment of the time we have been apart. I can’t believe he’s standing here, and had it not been for Mia standing next to me, I might’ve thought I was dreaming.

Review

This series had me wanting to throw things while reading Twisted Souls and wanting to bawl my eyes out while reading Twisted Paths. GOOD GOD.

Twisted Souls – the first book in the series is good. It is. it’s classic NA in that there are young emotions at play that make for terrible decisions. Throwing things while reading was not out of the question. I spent a large portion of this book reading through my fingers, cursing loudly and making murderous threats to fictional characters, so…um, yea. don’t say i didn’t tell you what you’re signing up for.

I honestly don’t think that I could have hated Ronan more. He’s an utter piece of shit from the beginning and his assholery only increases exponentially throughout the series. He deserves SO MUCH MORE than he gets. Fuck him and the truck he drives in on. Liane is left to make what she feels is an impossible decision. Have I mentioned I hate love triangles? I DO.

But yet, even though Liane makes – what I think – are the worst decisions on the face of the planet, my heart bled for her because she was doing what she thought was best. A confused young girl is manipulated into making awful choices and I wanted to beat my head against the wall. YET I ENJOYED THIS BOOK, I SWEAR I DID.

Twisted Souls is actually really good and sets you up the way you need in order to fully appreciate Twisted Paths – just know that you’re signing up for LL Collins’ special brand of torture. 😉

I was pretty emotionally wrecked after Twisted Souls and I didn’t know what the hell LL Collins was going to do to me in Twisted Paths, but pretty soon I was lifting my kindle in front of my face to hide the rivulets of tears that were running down my face to avoid my husband’s raised eyebrows.

Twisted Paths was an incredible ride that shows you exactly what happens when you allow yourself to love who you love and fuck the rest. This book jumps 18 years into the future – so, no longer are we talking about naive 18 year olds. While these characters have aged, not all of them have matured. Yes, I’m talking about you, RONAN THE ASSHOLE.

However, the love that dripped from the pages was definitely worth all of the suffering I endured in Twisted Souls. Blake is an incredible man. He’s absolutely everything and his reappearance in this book was a refreshing cool breeze on a stiflingly hot Florida day. His honesty & vulnerability make him such an incredibly loveable character. Liane became more likeable as each page turned and she began to stick up for herself more and more.

Heartfelt and beautiful writing wash away the pain of Twisted Souls – it’s so worth the ride. I loved this series and can’t wait to see what’s next!

Review: The Redemption of Callie & Kayden by Jessica Sorenson

Author: Jessica Sorenson

Book: The Redemption of Callie & Kayden (Book #2)

Other Books in Series:

The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden  (Book #1)
The Destiny of Violet & Luke (Book #3)
The Probability of Violet & Luke (Book #4)
The Certainty of Violet & Luke (Book #5)
The Resolution of Callie & Kayden (Book #6)

tl;dr recommendation: love story meets coming of age – this is how it’s done.

Book Summary:

The dark secret Kayden has kept hidden for years is finally out. Worse, he’s facing charges for battery. The only way to clear his name is for Callie to speak up-something he’ll never ask her to do. Instead, he’ll do whatever he must to protect her . . . even if it means letting go of the only girl he’s ever loved.

Callie knows Kayden is going back to his dark place and desperately wants to save him. But that means facing her greatest fear and admitting her own painful secrets aloud. The thought of breaking her silence terrifies her-but not as much as the thought of losing Kayden forever.

Deep in her heart, Callie knows the time has come for her and Kayden to forget the pain of the past. With the help of her friends Seth and Luke she makes a plan to show Kayden the life they could have. But can she convince him they can make a fresh start together-or is she already too late?

Longer Review:

After being left with such a crazy cliffhanger in book one, we return to find out that Kayden is in the hospital, Callie is missing him something fierce, and both of them are at a loss as to how to fix their problems and move forward. Thank God for Seth & Luke, because otherwise I’m pretty sure Callie would have lost it.

Instead, it was so awesome to see the determination flit into Callie’s eyes. She’s transforming into someone with confidence, determination and strength. While she still has her demons, she’s focused on helping Kayden destroy his. Kayden’s not unwilling to face them, but he really doesn’t know how. And he doesn’t want to hurt Callie any more than he thinks that he already has.

AHHHH, young emotional angsty love. There’s plenty of drama as you’ve come to expect, and the writing is impeccable. I was once again sucked into this book and tossed aside all of the other ones I was supposed to be reading. What? There was nothing else that I wanted to do but read this series. Get ready to hold on for an emotionally gripping ride. It’s a true NA, where love story meets coming of age – and it’s really well done.

Unfortunately that ending AGAIN left me a unfulfilled. Thank fuck there’s a conclusion book for their story because I could not be left like that. GOD I’M SO NEEDY.

Review: The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden by Jessica Sorenson

Book: The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden

Other Books in Series:

The Redemption of Callie & Kayden
The Destiny of Violet & Luke
The Probability of Violet & Luke
The Certainty of Violet & Luke
The Resolution of Callie & Kayden

tl;dr recommendation: completely gripping, engrossing, and heartbreaking. I devoured this book.

Book Summary:

For Kayden, suffering in silence was the only way to survive. If he was lucky, he could keep his head down, do as he was told, and make it through the day. But one night it seemed like his luck — and his life — might finally end… until an angel named Callie appeared just in time to rescue him.

Callie has never believed in luck. Not since her twelfth birthday when everything was taken from her. After the worst was over, she locked up her feelings and vowed never to tell anyone what happened. Now, six years later, she continues to struggle with the painful secret that threatens to consume her.

When fate lands Kayden and Callie at the same college, Kayden is determined to get to know the beautiful girl who changed his destiny. Quiet and reserved, Callie still fears letting anyone else into her world. But Kayden is certain that Callie has come back into his life for a reason. And the more he tries to be a part of her life, the more he realizes that, this time, it’s Callie who needs to be saved…

Longer Review:

Sometimes I’m a sucker for a coming of age story filled with inner turmoil, childhood demons, and unbreakable love. This was one of those times. Jessica Sorenson is a masterful storyteller – her writing easily has you falling in love with Callie & Kayden as they’re not sure if they’re falling in love with each other. BUT THEY ARE.

The brush of kisses, the hesitant touches, and the heartfelt connections remind me of when I was in college finding myself – or trying to anyway. This book pulls at those same emotions and makes me want to re-tell all of my secrets to my husband. INTROSPECTION.

Callie & Kayden have that thing that you look for when you’re searching for your next read. It’s a feeling – a connection – that bind them together and binds you to the freaking book. I totally didn’t even mean to read this in one night, but then, there I was at 3am, unable to put the book down.

Callie is a sweet girl who has been through a shit experience as a child. Like most things that happen during our formative years, it’s shaped who she is today. She’s desperately trying to break free of the chains of those demons and learn to trust again. When she saved Kayden from his own childhood demons one night when they were back in high school she never thought she’d see him again. She did what she thought was right.

But to Kayden, that night was his salvation. What Callie did for him created a debt that he could never repay and when he runs into her at college, he’s determined to thank her. Which turns into getting to know her. Which turns into oh-my-god-why-am-i-feeling-all-of-these-emotions.

The struggle of family is real. We all have our difficulties, and this book highlights some of the fucked up shit that can happen behind seemingly perfect picket fences.

I’m spent, people. THAT ENDING. I already ran off and bought book 2. #seeya *shoves face in book*
