Review:

*flops on the floor*
I AM EMOTIONALLY EXHAUSTED.

Release Me puts you through an emotional wringer that will have you twisting, turning & screaming. My particular scream sounded like ‘Holy Fuck!’, but you know, that’s just me. The second in the trilogy, this book is a marathon of slick sex, hot kisses and deep emotion. The way this story is written garners the same feelings that I have for my beloved Gideon. I don’t usually compare book boyfriends….oh wait, yes I do. And here, I can easily say that Hudson Chase is as good as Gideon Cross.

The book starts out with a substantial amount of angst. There’s a tragic event that pushes Allie (well, forces her) to interact with Hudson on an almost-daily basis. She doesn’t want to be attracted to him – she doesn’t want to be near him. She’s pissed at him for the stunt he pulled at the end of Remind Me. But she’s unable to help it. Amy & Ann Marie are the masters of angst. I could feel the venom Allie was trying to spew – but I could also feel the sparks ignite between the two of them as she did.

Hudson is perfection. He’s strong, loyal to a fault, and incredibly loving. He’s not giving up Allie without a fight. *CHEERS!!!* We learn more about his background and childhood in this book & he’s much more forthcoming than I thought he would be. However, while he thinks it doesn’t affect him, we all know it does. I just wanted to wrap my arms around him and kiss away the shadows. And then kiss something else. *waggles eyebrows*

Speaking of…those sex scenes. phew! Even when things don’t go to plan, Allie & Hudson make it hot. Improvisation is their specialty. I’m pretty sure that they’re legitimately attempting to have sex every possible place imaginable, and I am fully in support of this mission. Carry on.

I was reading and reading and then somehow I found myself wrapped in a warm cocoon of love, hope, and happiness. It was glorious. I was floating on Cloud 9. Until I wasn’t. GOOD GOD. That cliffhanger. Fuck. We need to talk about the cliffhanger – you know, the one where my heart was pounding out of my chest. The one where I was literally sitting at the edge of my couch & whisper-screaming at my kindle. It’s a good cliffy. Unless you hate cliffies, then…welp, READ IT ANYWAY.

Release Me had me glued to the pages while my heart was bursting out of my chest. It’s full of passion & suspense that will leave you breathless. I LOVE THIS SERIES SO HARD. It deserves every single one of those five stars!

Excerpt:

When Allie turned to the mingling crowd her smile slipped from her face. Her breath caught and her steps faltered.

Hudson.

She stood motionless, unable to look away as he entered the reception area and shook hands with several people. The expression on his face was all business, and yet there was something so inherently sensual about the way he moved. He wore a black tuxedo, Ralph Lauren if she wasn’t mistaken, that fit the contours of his body in a way that made it impossible not to imagine the hard planes of muscle that lay beneath. But it wasn’t the sight of Hudson Chase in a tuxedo that caused an unwelcome tightness in Allie’s chest. It wasn’t even his dark wavy hair, perfectly messed with that sexy, just-rolled-out-of-bed look that made her fingers flex with an instinctive desire to touch it. It was the voluptuous brunette draped on his arm.

Sophia.

Allie recognized her immediately from the event at the Field Museum the night she and Hudson had first become reacquainted. She looked as stunning as she had that night. Her dress wasn’t red this time, but instead a champagne color a few shades lighter than her flawless bronze skin. And her long dark curls were piled loosely on top of her head, not cascading over her bare shoulders, but the effect was no less devastating. The woman had the curves of a centerfold and a face worthy of the cover. Hudson had insisted they hadn’t been seeing each other, but Allie got the distinct impression their arrangement was more than just a few casual dates. It was obvious the way Sophia’s hand stroked Hudson’s forearm, she was under that impression as well.

He flicked his gaze briefly to her hand, then back up. When he did his eyes met Allie’s and he stilled. A crowded ballroom stood between them, but in that moment it felt as though they were the only two people in the room.

Review

Ahhh Seth and Josie have quite a history. Once sixth grade sweethearts they now reconnect as adults, both now weighed down with some serious baggage. Seth’s kind heart is evident but Josie keeps secrets that cause lots of drama.

The reconnection between these characters was really fulfilling and the flashbacks to their youth were adorably romantic. Seth was a stellar character. He’s the perfect book boyfriend and wants to be the perfect real boyfriend to Josie. He’s going through the recent loss of his father (which honestly gave me flashbacks to My Clarity, but I digress) and dealing with the aftermath. He’s sensitive, sweet, way too kind, and incredibly loyal. I was swooning and smiling and batting my eyelashes through the book.

I struggled with Josie as a character. Many of her secrets didn’t feel like they should be secrets at all – and Seth gave her no reason whatsoever that she couldn’t trust him in her life. Basically, Josie annoyed me throughout the book and while I appreciated Seth’s love for her, I just didn’t connect with her character. There’s a ton of crazy that goes down at the end of the book that had me on high alert – danger & drama and just flat out CRAZY. All of which could have been avoided if Josie wasn’t such a secret hoarder.

Overall it’s a sweet story of a reclaimed love filled with a little bit of sex but a lot more drama. 3.25 stars!

Excerpt

“Are you nervous, Mr. Stewart?” She smirked. Her eyes were beaming playfully.

“No, not at all.” My pitch came off higher than I had expected, and I was upset with myself. I had to fix that. “I mean—” I cleared my throat. Two can play at this game, I thought. I squared my shoulders and sat up tall. “So, Josefina Anders, let me ask you some questions before I decide if I want to hire you.”

Her brows lifted, most likely wondering if I was being serious or joking. Dropping her crossed leg, she pulled the chair closer to the table. Josie pulled a piece of paper out of an envelope that I hadn’t seen a second ago, tucked away behind her back. She placed a resume on my desk. “Ask away.”

“How long have you been a waitress?”

“As long as I can remember. I got hired right after high school.” She pointed to her resume. “You can see that I’ve only worked at a few places, but I’m loyal and a good employee.”

“You’ve been a waitress for a long time, Ms. Anders. Do you think you’ll ever get sick of it?”

“Not if it means I get to see Mr. Stewart.” Her lips curled wickedly.

“Do you wear thongs or granny panties?”

Josie’s lips puckered, stopping herself from busting up. “Mostly thongs, but I’m not wearing anything under my skirt at the moment.”

Holy shit! I was trying to make her blush, but this was backfiring. Ignoring her last words, though it was extremely difficult to do, since all I could do was envision her with her skirt off, I continued, “Do you like to be on top or bottom?”

“I will be in whatever position pleases Mr. Stewart. I’m very flexible.”

Review: HIM by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

Authors: Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

Book: HIM

tl;dr recommendation: this book had me clenching more than just my fists. You’ll need a bucket of ice handy to cool down from this sexy as hell love story. FIVE STARS

Book Summary:

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend…and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinnydipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

Longer Review:

Give me second. I’m in a massive book hangover. I am so gone for this story. It’s sexy, alluring, and completely addictive.

wow. Wow. I fucking love this book. Coincidentally, I also loved the fucking in this book. IT IS SO HOT. Jamie and Wes’ story made my heart stutter and my pussy clench…even though neither of them would really care about that last part. Le sigh 😉

Jamie and Wes have been best friends for years. Wes was that guy at summer camp that would never back down from a challenge and who was always causing trouble. However, what Jamie doesn’t know is that Wes is in love with him & has always been in love with him. When Wes and Jamie are eighteen, on the last summer of their camp experience, Wes makes a bet with Jamie that will forever change their relationship. After that night he never speaks to Jamie again…until four years go by and they run into each other at a hockey tournament. Wes may be in love with Jamie but he’s pretty sure Jamie is straight, which devastates the deliciously cocky and oh so arrogant Wes. Or is he?

Two buff hockey players falling in love is perhaps my new favorite weakness. There’s just something about this book that made me smile incessantly. I’m going to flail and gush and scream ‘READ THIS BOOK’ to everyone now. Really. GO READ THIS BOOK. This is not only a great m/m love story but it’s also just a great story. You can feel the emotions come through the pages. Wes is struggling not to give too much away while Jamie is struggling to find out what this all means for him.

They’re so damn sweet to each other and yet so very manly that my ovaries may have shed a few tears when they realized they didn’t stand a chance. Favorite part other than their budding relationship? Jamie’s family. Hands down. Coolest fucking people on earth.

I am so utterly sad that this book ended. I could read about their lives forever. This book causes giddiness, warring emotions and pure joy. FIVE STARS!

“It’s a new show, Quirks and Kinks. We’ve already selected a male reenactment actor to be your co-host, so you’re the last piece of the puzzle. There’s some seriously f@$%ed up sh*t out there that people are into, and the two of you are going to be the face of it.”

“I’m going to be the face of people’s freakish fetishes?” I asked disbelievingly.

Larry shrugged his nonchalance, shoving it directly down the throat of my panic. “Half of it.”

That conversation was the beginning of more than a show.

It was the beginning of mystery, friendship, and love, and the outcome of mixing all three together with two unsuspecting victims.

Easie Reynolds and Anderson Evans were drawn to the same, simple thing—each other.

But, sometimes, undeniable chemistry isn’t enough. After all, how easy is it to get know someone when they’re constantly pretending to be someone else?

SNEAK PEAK EXCERPT:

“I’m still not even sure what we’re doing here,” I told Ashley as I glanced around at the cheap Tex Mex themed decor of El Loco Restaurant.

All around us, business-suit-clad, young singles chatted and laughed, sinking deeper into their margaritas and each other. A life untraveled stared me in the face, but it didn’t make me feel bitter or regretful. All I felt was stupid for being out and spending money that we didn’t have.

“You just landed a job,” she cooed before sipping delicately from the free water.

Giving her my undivided attention, I narrowed my cat-like blue eyes.

“Granted, it’s not a job you’re exactly thrilled about, but it comes with money, and that’s worth celebrating a little.”

“Pff,” I huffed. “So far, all it’s come with is a bag of muffin mix and humiliation.” Exaggeratedly, I checked my purse. “Nope, no money.”

Ashley just shook her head. “We’re eating one dollar tacos. Peanut butter and bread are more expensive. Relax.”

My fingers itched for a cigarette, and astute twenty-three year old lady that she was, Ashley didn’t miss it.

“Besides, if we’re going to get on the money discussion you’re going to have to take a closer look at some of your other expensive habits.”

Ashley had been trying to talk me into quitting for years, and I knew my lungs would thank me if I somehow managed to follow through. But for as desirable as it sounded, I just…couldn’t. It wasn’t so much the addiction and the work it would take to kick a years-in-the-making habit. It was that smoking had become my emotional crutch. My timeout in any moment of need and my excuse to busy myself with something other than being a bitch. I was scared of the chasm I’d fall into, the unclimbable hill I’d create with my auger-like anxiety.

My sister didn’t know any of that. No one did.

“I smoke for my career.”

Her eyes practically rolled all the way out of her head. “This ought to be good.”

“You know this industry is unbelievably vapid, and vapid means skinny. Smoking keeps me that way.”

She shook her head in disdain.

“And it’s cheaper than a gym membership.”

“Global warming, anyone?” she called dramatically. “You’re argument is balancing on some pretty thin ice.”

“Shut up.”

Suddenly, warmth wafted up into my face as our waiter shoved the toasty basket of complimentary chips into the center of our table. My eyes drifted naturally from the basket to the hand holding it, where a large, oval, heavy metal ring sat in blazing contrast to the tan expanse of his long ring finger, up the line of his muscular—deliciously veiny—forearm, to the cuff of his rolled up black sleeve. On a runaway mission of their own, my eyes wouldn’t stop, eating up the expanse of his bicep in an instant, stutter-stepping up the corded column of his slender throat, and landing on one of the most attractive male mugs I’ve ever seen.

A mixing bowl of ethnicity, his naturally tanned skin and dark features stood in stark contrast with the minty green of his eyes. Directly on me and smirking, they were mesmerizing.

And mocking.

Ashley spoke, as I’d apparently lost all of my normal snarky ability.

“Thanks.”

A small glance from me to her preceded his polite answer. “You’re welcome.”

She smiled her prettiest smile, the one that infused her entire being from chest to eyes, and the corner of his mouth notched higher in response.

A foreign heaviness settled in my chest as I watched, and its completely unwelcome presence nearly made me sick.

He turned to leave slowly, one last lingering look in my direction making my nerves ratchet up to an eleven.

Fuck. I did not like to be rattled. Confident words were my modus operandi, but a good earthquake could wreck even the strongest of routines. My table at El Loco, tonight—this guy—was the epicenter.

The man in question had just earned himself automatic placement on my shit list.

Straight, white, top teeth just barely teased the plump pillow of his bottom lip. It was unintentional, completely innocent, and hot as Jesus’ sauna.

Shit list position confirmed.

“You’re, like, really attractive,” Ashley noted, evidently drunk on her water and speaking via a direct link to my brain.

His chuckle was like a full body vibrator, skating through the nerves on every inch of my skin. One long-fingered hand shot straight to his neck, rubbing the uneasiness of Ashley’s compliment out quickly.

“Thanks.”

“Are you an actor?” she continued. “You’ve got to be, right?”

Every attractive person you meet must be in the business.

I would have laughed at Ashley’s assumption and how ridiculous it was if I hadn’t been thinking the same thing.

He looked slightly bashful, but fought straight through the discomfort and answered her frankly. “Uh, yeah. I mean, I’m trying anyway. I’m not particularly successful.”

Distracted by my reaction to him and his honesty, I didn’t run a pre-check on anything coming out of my mouth. Not that I normally had the best filter. “So you’re another one of those actors, waiting tables to pay the bills and pass the time?”

He bristled, and rightfully so. But he did it with an otherworldly calm, meeting my eyes directly and speaking in a soft, polite—if only slightly teasing—voice.

“One of those? Oh. No. Waiting tables is my dream. I just act to fit in.”

My cheeks felt hot with embarrassment and shame, and the glint in his eyes told me that he saw it.

Sometimes I hated that my default setting was bitch. Such a dominant trait was hard to overturn. “Okay, so maybe that was a little rude.”

One corner of his mouth—the smug one—rose just slightly. “It’s a distinct possibility.”

Silence hung between us, but while my time was spent avoiding eye contact, his was spent calculating his next blow.

“I guess you must be something really impressive then?”

“Huh?” My wandering eyes shot to his with the focus of a heat-seeking missile.

“Well, you obviously aren’t on the waiting tables slash acting track that the rest of us losers are.”

“Um—”

“I mean, you must do something that really matters, right? Educating orphaned kids. Curing Cancer. Coming up with the way to end all of the world’s unrest.” Attractive arms crossed over an equally nice chest. “Am I right?”

For as confident as I usually was, and as many comebacks as I normally had, I couldn’t think of one single thing to say.

Unfortunately, my sister wasn’t suffering from a similar problem.

“Hah! She’s an actor too. But she’s too busy to wait tables.”

“Working?” he asked, one manly eyebrow cocking in time with his question. If I wasn’t mistaken, he actually looked impressed for a minute.

I was ready to leave right then, but Ashley, being the one of us with a conscience, had a knack for ruining a good thing.

“Oh. No. She’s just too busy being her. You know, cutting people like you down in her spare time.” She looked away, bopped to the music in the background. “But, she doesn’t do it on purpose. She was born this way. Cold, dead heart and all. I guess that’s why people like me still love her.”

I tried not to let her words hurt. After all, if I were describing myself, I probably would have chosen the exact same words, and because I knew her so well, I knew she was just trying to make a joke and bail me out of a situation of my own making.

And yet, I still couldn’t stop the smile from slipping and sliding its way off of my face.

It only took a few seconds to recover, but when I looked back up at the waiter, he was looking at me differently. Assessing.

Uncomfortable was too cushy a word for what I was feeling. Bombs exploded and sprayed shrapnel, the sharp edges of his scrutiny digging into the flesh of my muscle and making it twitch just beneath the not-protective-enough layer of my skin.

Her heart was pounding and her panties were soaking wet. She smiled. “I’m ready.”

“Babe, you were in a hospital bed yesterday. Soon, I promise. I want my cock buried in your hot pussy. I want to watch you come with me buried deep. I want to hear you say my name over and over cause I’ve made you feel so good.”

“Tony, I…”

“Let me finish. I want to hold you after and fall asleep wrapped around you. That’s what I want, Zoe.”

“Really?” Her eyes were shining with tears. He was telling her about what she had yearned for during her marriage.

His tone softened. “There’s more. I want there to be no hesitation when it comes to me giving you what you need. Just say it. Tell me. No boundaries, no embarrassment. If you are curious, we’ll try it. I hope that in time, you will give me your trust, because I’m ready to give you mine.”

She nodded then squared her shoulders. “I’d like that. I mean, I’ll try. I will try that with you.”

I live on a grain farm southeast of Indianapolis, Indiana with my very patient husband of twenty-five years and our two English Mastiffs, Buster Brown and Ginger. I graduated from Indiana University when it was the #1 party school in the country and I took great pride in helping the school achieve that ranking.

I haven’t figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I change careers every decade. I have worked in retail, a federal courtroom, travelled across the state closing loans, and behind the scenes in a casino.

I’ve always had an active imagination so when a good friend suggested that I try writing a book, I thought why not, it should be fun. It has, but I have had to work very hard to learn how to do it. I am so lucky for the outpouring of advice and education from so many in the industry, plus the hand-holding and cheerleading from My Gurls. I also have an incredible Ad-man-istrative Assistant, who tries to keep me under control. He rolls his eyes so much that I worry about a permanent condition.

When I ‘m not working or writing type stuff, I sleep, watch courtroom TV shows, and sports. I was a competitive pro-am ballroom dancer for ten years and I read as many books as I can.

tl;dr recommendation: The secrets are forgivable, the passion is real, and the journey is unforgettable

Book Summary:

From the author of the breathtaking bestsellers Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, the extraordinary saga continues.

Their passionate encounter happened long ago by whatever measurement Claire Randall took. Two decades before, she had traveled back in time and into the arms of a gallant eighteenth-century Scot named Jamie Fraser. Then she returned to her own century to bear his child, believing him dead in the tragic battle of Culloden. Yet his memory has never lessened its hold on her… and her body still cries out for him in her dreams.

Then Claire discovers that Jamie survived. Torn between returning to him and staying with their daughter in her own era, Claire must choose her destiny. And as time and space come full circle, she must find the courage to face the passion and pain awaiting her…the deadly intrigues raging in a divided Scotland… and the daring voyage into the dark unknown that can reunite or forever doom her timeless love.

Longer Review:

Sweet christ. I cursed more in this book than I have in any of the others, but this is also my favorite of the series so far. I don’t know why I get so angry with the characters when I KNOW that I’m just going to let them crawl back into my heart and do it all over again. I mean for fuck’s sake. JAMIE. Remember in the last book when I was so pissed at Claire I couldn’t see straight? Oh. Well, now it’s Jamie’s turn.

Until approximately 27% into this book I was really angry. AND THEN. The perfect scene happened. And it was like the rain fell lightly overnight, cooling the heat that was smothering me and I could finally breathe again. I spontaneously orgasmed. My heart burst from my chest. And all was right with the world.

We know from the blurb that Claire goes back in time to find Jamie now that she knows he’s alive – but twenty years have passed. TWENTY YEARS. Anything could have happened in those twenty years, and damnit, so much does. Can Claire accept the Jamie that he is now as opposed to the one that she remembers so long ago? It’s clear from the immediate reunion that they both burn for each other. The hot kisses and the firm grip of their love is undeniable to anyone who sees them. But as the truth unravels – as the secrets Jamie keeps start to spill out – can Claire forgive him? CAN I FORGIVE HIM?

There is a shit ton of angst, kidnapping, arson, prison, murder, glorious sex, shipwrecks, and even the return of a character that I never thought I’d see again. At one point I skipped through my kitchen and squealed while my husband gave me side eye and shook his head. At another point I had silent tears streaming down my face as a piece of my heart broke off.

This series is exceptional. Yes, it’s fucking long. Yes, Diana knows it. She actually makes fun of herself a little bit about the length of her books in this one and I found that refreshing. In all reality, this book is like 4 in one. There’s a lot packed into these pages that will keep you up at night and have you thinking about it during the day.I dreamed about this book, twining it into my sleep as well as my days. This book, like the others, is written extremely well. The attention to detail is outstanding and Diana knows just how far she can push you before you need a reprieve, and then she reels you back in with Jamie & Claire. Always Jamie & Claire.

The secrets are forgivable, the passion is real, and the journey is unforgettable. 5 Stars! On to Drums Of Autumn!

Review:

pounding hearts. a thrilling mission. finding freedom.
PARKER. PARKER. PARKER.

Parker is the book boyfriend of your dreams. Well, if he existed, he’d be the real life boyfriend of your dreams too, but I digress. Cristin knows how to write smart alpha men who make you swoon and Parker is no exception. A member of Titan, an elite private security force, Parker is also known online as BlackDawn. He’s a hacker but uses his skills for good. However, when he gets in a jam, he sometimes calls up the help of his biggest competitor, SilverChaos.

Silver – who is also Lexi – looks nothing like the tech geeks expect her to look. First, she’s a woman – and everyone thinks that SilverChaos is a man – but more than that she’s got her own unique and sexy as fuck style…that is, when she’s being true to herself. Somehow she’s found herself stuck in a relationship with an utter asshole. As Lexi tries to find to the person she is and the one she wants to become again, her personal and work lives collide in a way that she never imagined.

I was incredibly impressed that this book delved deeper into abuse-type issues than I thought it would. The portrayal of Lexi and Matt’s relationship was harsh, brutal and realistic. When Lexi finally maneuvers through that awful situation, I was cheering so goddamn hard.

I may have mentioned this before, but Parker is perfection. The way that he handles the situation with Lexi and Matt is amazing. I mean, I thought this book was going to just be all suspense and terror plot, etc. etc. BUT it’s so much more. As the kisses become stronger, the danger increases. Lexi’s forced to go into hiding, but Parker promises to find her. He will always find her.

The characters came off the page and hooked me at once. Their adorable geeky banter was humorous and threw a grin across my face. Lexi’s strength was compelling and Parker…well, his everything was everything. In case you missed it, I fucking love him.

The layers of this story and the beautiful way in which it is written make this a #MustRead. I give this ALL THE STARS.

See where it all began, with Twinsequences:

Twinsequences_ecoverI’d shared everything with Ivy since we were born. She was my exact double. We were only two minutes apart. I never thought that my own twin sister would steal away my one chance at happiness, but that is exactly what she’d done. She didn’t even know that I was in love with him. How could she? Ivy was too busy being Miss Popular to notice what I wanted. After having my heart broken, I’d decided to leave my town, and my sister, to go to college out of state. For the past four years, I’d done nothing but work to make a life for myself. We were still the best of friends, but going home was too hard for me to face and I hadn’t been back since they’d gotten married. I wanted my sister to be happy, even if it meant I never would be. She didn’t have the brains, or the successful future that I knew was coming to me. But, she’d always have the one thing I wanted. The one thing, I could never have. Stoshua Wheeler. A late night phone call brought me back to town. I should have never considered her request. It wasn’t right to pretend to be her, but she said she was in trouble. I had to help her. I’d dreamed of being her for five years. I envied their relationship. I wanted her life. What was I willing to risk to take it for myself? I’m Willow Green and this is my story.
