Review: Hate Fuck – Part 3 by Ainsley Booth

Author: Ainsley Booth

Book: Hate Fuck – Part 3

Other books in series:

Hate Fuck – Part 1 (review here)
Hate Fuck – Part 2 (review here)

tl;dr recommendation: good final installment, but sadly didn’t pack the fire and punch that I had come to expect from books 1 & 2.

Book Summary:

Hailey:
In the blink of an eye, everything changed, and I can’t pretend I don’t need Cole anymore.
He’s my heart and soul, but he’s shut me out, and I’m scared.

Cole:
Keeping Hailey at arms’ length used to be an annoying challenge. Now it’s a matter of life and death.
I want vengeance. And then I want Hailey to be mine, forever.

Final part of the three book Hate F*@k serial.

NOT A STANDALONE STORY.

Longer Review:

We pick up from the major cliffhanger where Hailey has been abducted and assumed to have been taken to her daddy’s bff to become a sex slave, or whatever he does there. Hailey is one strong chick. She pulls no punches – both literally and figuratively – and I started to love her even more. While she and Cole are still trying to figure out how to be in a relationship, Hailey is also now trying to handle some serious shit that was dished onto her plate.

I love this series. I do. The first novella had me fired up – the second gave me more heat, fire & danger – but the third just didn’t pack the same punch. For me, a lot of the scenes felt rushed and like the author was attempting to shove in as much information as possible to get the story finished. I honestly would have preferred a book 4 instead of the rush through the major events that I felt was happening.

I don’t want to be too overly critical because it’s still a really fun and good story. I just was expecting another five star read and I didn’t feel it, so this review may be harsher than I intend it to be. I still fucking love Cole & Hailey and I was so so happy for that ending. The heat level was great and there were some seriously sweet moments that I wanted to bottle up and keep forever. I really actually enjoyed how it ended and was left pretty satisfied.

Overall the series gets a 4.5 from me – but this installment is at a 3.75 – why don’t you read it for yourself? 😉

[I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review – thank you!]

Book Summary

Carter bought his way out of the mafia to protect Emma, but when an old ghost returns to the Mauricio Family, a chain of events starts that can harm everyone. While Carter must decide to return to the Mauricio Family or not, a face that is oddly familiar to Emma comes into her life. She’s given the chance to discover more about her family while tensions between the rivaling Mauricio and Bertal Family comes to a head in an explosive way. The truce is officially off, and when the two worlds collide, Carter’s decision is made.

He didn’t start this war, but he will end it.

He will do anything to protect Emma.

carterreedteaser6Excerpt

We’d been learning how to shoot for a couple of months now. It had been Theresa’s idea, and these sessions had started to replace our wine nights. It had also been her idea to have Noah be our instructor. Carter was the better shot, but Theresa still liked to keep her distance from him. He still made her uneasy.

Amanda had asked her about it one night at their apartment when I’d gone to the bathroom. I stopped in the hallway when I’d overheard Theresa explain, “It’s not that I don’t like him. It’s just…he’s a killer, Amanda. He’s dangerous. I know he loves her, and I know if anyone is going to protect her, it will be him, but…” She’d sighed. “I don’t know. He’s known as the Cold Killer. It’s hard to get past that, even though I know Emma loves him so much.”

Amanda had asked, “Are you worried for her?”

“No.” She’d hesitated. “I mean…maybe. I’m not worried for her from him, but because of him. He’s with the mafia.”

“She said he’s out.”

“Yeah, well, is anyone really out?”

Amanda had replied, “She wasn’t in trouble before because of him. Emma and I did that all on our own.”

“I know. I really do, and I feel bad, but I’m just on edge with the guy. He’s deadly. Can’t you see it in his eyes?” Theresa got up for the kitchen. “I need a refill. You?”

I had melted backward, back into the bathroom. When she’d crossed the hallway, the bathroom door was shut.

Glancing over at her now, I remembered how her smiles had seemed more forced that night, her laughter a little louder, and the secretive looks she’d sent Amanda’s way. They were roommates. They were going to talk about me. That was obvious, but I’d been hurt, though I knew I shouldn’t have been.

Theresa worried about me. I tried to keep telling myself it was as simple as that.

I tried.

Teaser Quotes

A tingle started in the base of my stomach, and it rose up, spreading through my body, warming me as it went, until I was almost salivating for him. When I saw him, I needed to touch him. It had been like this for a year, and I never wanted it to end. I always wanted to thirst for him.

He murmured against my skin, “Why is it that your presence can calm me? Your touch can make me alive, and one little sigh from you makes me want to sleep for days in your embrace?”

I smiled, moving to press a kiss to his ear. “Because you love me.”

carterreedteaser4

Pulling me back into his arms, he nudged my legs farther apart, moving closer, and pressed his lips to the underside of my jaw. He whispered, “Never.” Another kiss to the corner of my lips. “Ever.” A third kiss, his lips resting atop mine and he murmured, “I promise. Nothing will ever happen to you.”

“Because you need to understand. It’s time you know more. You’re mine, Emma. My first allegiance is to you. Things are going to happen now, and I can’t control them. The Mauricio family has always followed me.”

Suddenly I realized—he was going back in. A tear formed in my eye, and I ignored it. This was what he was telling me. I swallowed over a lump. “What happens now?”

He didn’t answer at first. Then he let out a soft breath of air and turned, his eyes pained. He said one word: “War.”

carterreedteaser3

I closed my eyes and just felt her. She trailed a hand down my face, tracing my lips. That small touch, so gentle, so loving. That was Emma.

No other woman made me feel like this. It was her, only her. Opening my eyes, I found her watching me and smiling as her chest heaved for air.

“I love you,” she murmured.

Goddamn. I kissed her and whispered against her lips, “I love you too.”

I closed my eyes and held the man I loved. Resting my forehead to his, I placed my arms on his shoulders as he held my hips. His thumbs rubbed back and forth. This. Right here. He was the most powerful man I knew, and he was all mine.

Author Information

Tijanbio

I didn’t begin writing until after undergraduate college. There’d been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can’t blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I’m hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.

GIVEAWAY!

Excerpt:

Kate bit back a groan. Her sister had horrible habits. She came here to provoke her, not play the victim card. Kate was on to the game of cards.

Unable to find another solution, Kate played her role. She sipped her drink, rolled her eyes, and turned toward the waitress. She ordered another drink. She gazed into the ember eyes then turned back toward her sister.

Stephanie crossed her arms. “You haven’t touched your drink.”

Kate snapped, “I’ll need it when we’re done.”

Kate left her almost-full glass of wine at the table, stood up, and walked toward the patio bar. Hotels on South Beach seemed to have a bar station everywhere.

“I’m not finished speaking . . .” Her sister grabbed her arm. Something stirred the man behind her. A second later, Stephanie let go. Then without one look back, Kate’s arms had goose bumps.

Whatever he did had paralyzed Stephanie. Muscles and height worked for him. Six foot three and a body of an action hero. The hot Collins man smelled good, too, almonds and the forest mixed together.

Slowly, she turned and stared into those ember eyes. Kate winced. She might not fall in love, at least not real love, but this man’s bed would be heaven.

A snort almost bubbled up in her throat as she walked away and never turned back.

A few feet away, Kate heard her sister’s voice.

“My sister and I are in a private conversation.”

Kate turned and stared into yet another mirror. Stephanie had folded her hands like in prayer. Was she joking?

Kate shrugged, walked back, and pasted on a simper to match Stephanie’s tone. “Me and my sister are in a loving, sweet conversation, sir, and it would be best if we could get back to it.”

“Sarcastic.” The man added, “You’d need that.”

She’d need to be rude? Kate stood next to him and had no idea what to say. The man leaned down next to her face. Kate’s blood pressure shot up. What had he planned? She wouldn’t kiss him. Ever. Her brown eyes stared at his in wide-eyed wonder. The man then told her sister, “Stephanie, go back to my cousin. I’m here to talk to Kate.”

What could she do? She had no idea who this man was other than his last name? She fixed her hair behind her ear, and Kate pretended to be experienced with worldly knowledge.

Stephanie then stomped away, and Kate shook her head, “We’re not kissing. I don’t know your name.”

His head shot back, and he laughed. “A kiss?”

“I assumed you were here to seduce me.”

A warm liquid desire built inside her.

He took a step back then told her, “Daniel. I’m Daniel Collins.”

“I’m . . . Kate Sparrow.” At least she could speak in her normal tone now. She sighed. It took longer than normal, but the man’s presence overpowered the room, at least to her.

He shrugged. “You’re far prettier in person than in the newspapers.”

“Figures.” Reality crashed on her shoulders. Notorious Kate Sparrow meant fun, a meaningless flirt, and a chance to be in the newspapers. Guys were not interested in her or the inner spark that made her special. The wind knocked out of her sails, proverbially, or whatever that word was. A bile of distrust in her stomach lining returned. “Go away now.”

She stood back up and walked toward the bar. The waitress took too long.

He followed her and handed her the wine glass. She bit her lip. She ought to ditch this one fast.

“Princess, I meant that as a compliment. You surprised me.”

“What a line. Don’t be insulting and call me princess.” Kate downed her drink, and her nostrils flared. Her father hated her. Her sister ran a game that meant it was okay to stab Kate in the back. Men treated her like she was someone else. The lockbox had to explain how this all related to her mother’s company. She signaled for that other drink. Without one glance in his direction, she told Daniel, “I’ve heard better, now run along.”

She took a seat in the barstool.

“Kate, we’re both going to the wedding.” At least his voice came from above her and not nearly so close. Her body hadn’t cooled down. The wine burned her throat. Daniel then told her, “Everything will be better if we get along.”

Kate swiveled her chair, ready for battle now. “Better? My life hasn’t been better in years, so get lost. The only numbing thing left in my life is a good, stiff drink, and I’ve not had nearly enough of them to find you the least bit attractive.”

Strike. Dang. Somewhere along the path, she’d became hard and bitter. Daniel Collins’s dark eyes read shocked. She glanced back at the new glass of wine. His tall muscular frame and presence took control of the room, but his eyes read sympathy and understanding. His words were different. Was his empathy part of his game? Did any women say no to him? Kate guessed this man must get what he wanted, when he wanted it. In a different life, she’d have been a shy musician that steered clear of men like him. She picked up the wine, but dared not drink.

Kate Sparrow was the heiress to a shoe fortune. So why hadn’t all her money taught her how to act in front of a man?

Cover Reveal: Twisted Bond by Emma Hart

I’m an Italian-Texan woman in a family full of cops. I’m passionate and shoot before I think. You only f*ck with me if you’re stupid.
Photograph cheating spouses. Hand over the evidence. Cash my check.
That was my plan when I returned home to Holly Woods, Texas, and became a private investigator.
Finding the dead body in my dumpster? Yeah… Given the choice, I think I would have opted out of that little discovery, especially since all three of my brothers are cops. And my Italian grandmother is sure the reason I’m single is because of my job.
Of course, my connection to the victim is entirely coincidental. Until I’m hired by her husband to investigate her murder and shoved bang-smack into the path of Detective Drake Nash.
My nemesis, a persistent pain in my ass, and one hell of a sexy son of a bitch.
Shame he still holds a grudge from that time I shot him in the foot twelve years ago, or we could have something. In another life.
So now all I have to do is avoid my nonna’s blind dates, try not to blackmail my brothers into giving me confidential police files, and absolutely do not point my gun at Drake Nash. Or kiss him. Or jump his bones.
All while I hunt down the killer.
Sounds totally simple—until a second body proves that sometimes things that start as coincidences don’t always end up that way…
(Twisted Bond is book one of the Holly Woods Files series and while it does not end in a cliffhanger, it is not a standalone.)

ADD TO GOODREADS

“Get out!” I yell, my voice hoarse.

“I’m sorry?” Drake recoils.

“Get out. Of my building,” I add, moving toward him as he walks backward. “If you don’t have a warrant in your ass pocket, get the fuck out. Now.”

He grabs my wrist and pulls me into him. “Listen to me, cupcake. Someone got real lucky last night, and that someone was you. You weren’t here when your killer wanted you to be. Yeah, I said yours. They know you’re waitin’ for ‘em. Most nights you’d be here, right? But last night, because I pissed your ass off, you weren’t. Know what that tells me?”

“I’m sure you’re gonna tell me,” I manage through gritted teeth.

“It tells me this killer is watching you. You ain’t safe. They’re waiting to strike, and it’s gonna be the second you’re alone. We’re close. I can feel it. You’re their target now. And this killer? They want to kill you.

“No shit,” I whisper, looking away from him. “I won’t back down. I don’t care what you say. They can try and kill me. I’ve dealt with worse.”

“Stop being a pain in my ass.” He grabs my chin and forces me to look into his eyes and all their devastatingly icy glory. “Someone. Wants. To. Kill. You.”

“I know.”

“Yet you don’t care.”

“I care,” I whisper, holding his gaze. “But did you ever think that I’m your best bet at catching this person? If they’re watching me, if they want to kill me, they’re there. Waitin’, like you said. And that means they’re gonna come to me. Not you. Not anyone else. Me.”

“Yeah, I thought it. But I don’t like it.”

“Ain’t your job to like it, Detective. It’s your job to deal with it.”

“You’re right. It ain’t my job to like it, but I ain’t exactly dealing with it either.”

“What the hell does that mean?”

“It means,” he leans in, his touch relaxing just a smidge, “It means that I don’t like it. I’m not dealin’ with it. And the thought of you bein’ in the kinda danger you are scares the ever-lovin’ fuckin’ shit out of me.”

Review & Release Day: Reverence by Angelica Chase

Author: Angelica Chase

Book: Reverence (Excess #2)

Check out my review of Opulence (book 1) here

tl;dr recommendation: If you’re not reading these, you need to be. NOW.

Book Summary:

Devin
I was a prick, but I never hurt anyone that didn’t deserve it.
Well … until Nina.
I was a very smart man who made a very bad decision, but the mistakes I was paying for were not just my own.
My behavior toward her, no matter how unforgivable, had always been about protecting her—from me, from my wife, and from the long line of mistakes I would never be able to rectify.
Nina was finally done with me, and I knew it was for the best. I could finally keep her safe from depraved people like me. I needed her as far removed from the situation as possible. I tried to force myself to be content with her decision to move on … until I found out whom she was moving on with.

Nina
My unyielding love for a corrupt man might have cost me the affection of someone worthy.
With Aiden, I had finally discovered a version of myself I could tolerate; then he dropped a one word bomb that ruined my new sense of self. Instead of listening to my voice of reason, I blocked it out, until it became a scream that refused to be ignored.
Now, I would give anything to quiet that voice.

Longer Review:

Silly me, I thought that I had lost my mind after book one. Nope. Angelica has managed to coordinate a complete mind fuck. All of a sudden I love Devin – I think Aiden is being unreasonable – and poor Nina is stuck between a rock and a hard place (just not the kind she likes).

I don’t think I need to say it in every review, but I will: Angelica can write. This book has managed to turn everything I thought I knew from Opulence (book 1) into question. While I usually despise love triangles, I actually feel for both of these guys now. Where previously I thought Devin was a lying, conniving asshole, I’m now wanting to strangle his wife and release him from the chains of his unhappy marriage.

With the help of Aiden, Nina makes a big discovery of her own – and she’s not entirely pleased about it. I have a good feeling she’ll come around though. I mean, I know that at least she’ll come – THAT is a certainty. If you like gritty, filthy fucking, then I’m not sure why you haven’t one-clicked yet.

The story is great, the sex is phenomenal, and I’m now fully primed for book 3. This is one novella series that you will not be able to put down. SO GOOD.

[I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review]

Review: The Resolution of Callie & Kayden by Jessica Sorenson

Author: Jessica Sorenson

Book: The Resolution of Callie & Kayden (Book #6)

Other Books in Series:

The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden  (Book #1)
The Redemption of Callie & Kayden (Book #2)
The Destiny of Violet & Luke (Book #3)
The Probability of Violet & Luke (Book #4)
The Certainty of Violet & Luke (Book #5)

tl;dr recommendation: Great series and I really enjoyed it, but wanted a little more to the ending.

Book Summary:

Things are well for Callie and Kayden. They’re still dealing with their past and the pain connected to it, but for the most part they’ve moved on. The biggest decision they have at the moment is what they want to do with their lives in the future.

Eventually, though, the past catches up with them and they’re left facing tough choices. But Callie and Kayden learn that as long as they have each other, they can make it through just about anything. And in the end, they discover what they really want out of life.

Longer Review:

Finally, I received an ending I wanted – although could I have gotten an epilogue? ahhhh, I guess the sign of a good series is when my greedy self keeps begging for more.

Callie & Kayden are finally together and are trying to make their lives work. Is this relationship it for both of them? Are they moving forward together as a couple or is Kayden still tied to the darkness of his past?

The two of them experience painful life events together and try to figure out how to deal with things in their new reality: where they share their feelings and stay open to each other. Somehow when they’re together, things work; yet, when they’re apart, the physical space amplifies any emotional space that either of them may feel. It’s this struggle that has them floundering in their newborn, yet deep, relationship. I was cheering so hard for them to come out on top.

While they both have grown, Callie has exceeded my expectations. Her strength is needed here though as Kayden looks to her for comfort and solace. Callie takes Kayden on a sweet walk down memory lane, which was nice and I overall really enjoyed this conclusion for the couple. I was internally complaining a little bit as there appeared to be a lot of repeated information in his book that we already knew from the others. Duh, I’m aware, I sat through the first two parts of their story – I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t.

Overall, this series is wonderfully written and completely captivating. It’s most definitely worth reading!

copleasure-releaseCARESS OF PLEASURE by Julie Kenner is available today! Dante is waiting…

My review is HERE

caressofpleasureAbout CARESS OF PLEASURE

I’d thought that he was mine, the dark, arresting man who commanded not only my body but my heart. Dante had swept into my life, and I’d succumbed to the burn of passion in his arms.

I’d believed we had a love that would last forever, but he’d shattered my dreams and broken me into pieces when he’d walked away, taking a piece of my soul with him.

Now he has come back seeking my help, and though I try to keep my distance and protect my heart, I cannot deny that the fire between us burns hotter than ever. And I cannot help but fear that this time our passion will reduce us both to ashes.

Excerpt

I fell in love with him once—and I’m honestly not sure that I ever fell out of love.

But I do know one thing for sure—Dante Storm is dangerous to my heart. And whatever we started just now is something that we can’t finish.

I meet his eyes and am about to say just that when he shakes his head. “No. Don’t say it. You don’t need to say it.”

“What?”

“That we can’t do it again.”

“We can’t.”

“I know.”

I stand in silence. I know why I can’t; it’s because he will break my heart.

But I don’t know why he doesn’t want me. I only know that he doesn’t. I only know that he walked away once, and that he has already told me he will walk away again.

That should be enough, but then I have to go and open my mouth. I have to ask— “Why? Why did you leave?”

For a minute, I don’t think that he’s going to answer. But he surprises me by saying, “Because I was looking at forever.”

“And you don’t think I was, too?” I’m baffled. With Dante, forever was my mantra.

He looks at me, his eyes so sad I want to cry. “No,” he says, “I know you weren’t.”

I start to protest, but he just shakes his head, like a dog shaking off water. “Let’s go transfer your money.”

“No,” I say, standing firm.

He cocks his head, then winces. “We shouldn’t have done this. It won’t happen again. But please don’t back out. I really need your help. I can’t tell you how urgent this is.”

“I’ll help,” I say. “But I don’t want your money. And I don’t want sex.” That’s not entirely true. I want it; I don’t think I can handle it.

“Then why?”

“I don’t know,” I say. “Maybe because I loved you once upon a time.”

Maybe because I still do.

Book Summary

“She healed me. She broke me. I set her free. But we are in this together. We will end this together. The rules of this ancient game can’t be broken.”

Nila Weaver no longer recognises herself. She’s left her lover, her courage, and her promise. Two debts down. Too many to go.

Jethro Hawk no longer recognises himself. He’s embraced what he always ran from, and now faces punishment far greater than he feared.

It’s almost time. It’s demanding to be paid.

The Third Debt will be the ultimate test…

HOW HAD THIS happened?

Where did it all go so wrong?

Jethro was supposed to love me. I was supposed to love him.

Yet he’d given me over to his family. He’d bound the ropes, blindfolded my eyes, and gifted me to his kin.

“Know what time it is, Nila Weaver?” Daniel breathed in my ear.

I jerked away. The restraints around my body meant I couldn’t run, couldn’t fight; I couldn’t even see.

Oh, God.

Please don’t let them do this.

I wanted to scream for Jethro to save me. I wanted him to put an end to this and claim me once and for all. Didn’t our connection mean anything?

You know it’s all different now.

Ever since I’d returned to Hawksridge Hall, things had been different—horribly, horribly different.

The fire crackled in the billiards room where the Hawk men had been playing poker. The air was hot and muggy and laced with cognac fumes.

Tonight, I’d had plans to end whatever changed between Jethro and me forever.

But now…those plans had changed.

Kestrel ran his fingers over my collar. “Relax, little Weaver. It will all be over soon.”

Cut chuckled. “Yes, soon you can go to sleep and pretend none of this happened.”

My ears strained for one other voice. The voice of the man who controlled my heart even though he’d thrown it back in my face.

But only silence greeted me.

Daniel snickered, licking my cheek. “Time to pay, Weaver.”

Someone clapped and in a voice full of darkness and doom said, “It’s time for the Third Debt.”

Two Months Prior

Jethro

I shook my head, my heart smarting with pain. “What happened to you?” I reached for him, wanting to clutch his forearm and reassure myself that our bond was still there.

With a sneer, he sidestepped, staying out of reach. “What happened to me?” Smiling coldly, he made me seem as if I were some idiot child asking for the universe’s secrets. “I got better. That’s what happened to me.”

“I don’t—I don’t understand. You weren’t ill.”

“You wouldn’t understand. No one can understand another’s problems. All you need to know is that I’m cured and I won’t make the same mistakes again.”

I took a step back, goosebumps scattering over my body. “Don’t say that. I’m in love with you. Something like that cannot be undone—”

“Love is a chemical imbalance, Ms. Weaver. I am no longer imbalanced.” He came closer. “Don’t get cold feet on your invitation. You promised you would come, and you don’t want to give me a reason to punish you so soon…do you?”

My skin pinpricked with panic. That sentence should’ve dripped with eroticism. But it wasn’t. It was cold…lifeless…like him.

Snapping his fingers, Jethro held out his hand. He kept his digits curled slightly so I couldn’t see the tattoo marks on the tips. “Come. I want to be back at Hawksridge before sunrise.”

Nila dropped the jumper onto the desk, cupping her breasts. “Does this count as acceptable to you?”

I couldn’t breathe.

Everything I’d been running from made my head pound, my cock beg, and the drugs in my system to fucking disintegrate.

What was it about her? Why did she have this control over me? And why was I utterly, ridiculously helpless around her?

God fucking help me.

Didn’t she know the more she antagonised me and made me slip, the more likely Cut would give her to Daniel and fucking slaughter me in my sleep? I wanted to strike her—hammer the precariousness of our situation home.

“Why did you bring me here?” she murmured, skirting the desk.

I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the hard pinpricks on her chest. She couldn’t be cold—not in this furnace. That meant she was turned on.

My mind instantly went to one question. Is she wet?

“Kes told you. Our secrets are now yours.”

“I don’t think that’s the only reason.” Closing the distance, she licked her bottom lip. “I think you wanted me off the estate, so you could have me without anyone seeing.” Her voice layered with sex and invitation. “You wanted me away from the cameras, so you could drop the act and show me the truth.”

Fuck.

I cleared my throat. “What truth?”

“That all of this is a lie. That you’re still the man I fell for—playing the same game you said you were sick of before I left.”

Shaking my head, I tried to clear my thoughts. “You’re once again delusional.” Swallowing hard, I ordered, “Go down to the sorting floor. I have a meeting to take care of—”

“No,” she breathed. “I’m not going anywhere until you stop being an asshole and show me the real you.” Closing the final distance, she stood beside me, crackling with mischief and lust.

Locking eyes, she undid the button and zipper of her jeans. “Don’t hide from me, Jethro. I can’t stay strong if you cut me out.”

My legs bunched to push the swivel chair backward. One heave and I could launch myself free and run from her web. But somehow, I couldn’t. I remained tethered in place; breathing fast, fear swamping my lungs.

She grabbed my wrist. “Don’t fight it. You can’t fight the inevitable.” Without a word, she pressed my hand into her trousers.

SUMMARY:

A Washington, DC, defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing—with his southern drawl, disarming smile, and captivating green eyes, he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him, and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.

Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart, the mother of his beloved ten-year-old daughter. Jenny is getting married—to someone who isn’t him.

That’s definitely not part of the plan.

***

Sofia Santos is a city-raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.

But when Stanton, her “friend with mind-blowing benefits,” begs her for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi, to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves. Her head tells her she’s crazy…and her heart says something else entirely.

What happens when you mix a one-stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage, and a gun-toting Nana?

The Bourbon flows, passions rise, and even the best-laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.

REVIEW:

Sofia is a smart, feisty woman and I liked her immediately. She’s not afraid to ask for what she wants, she willingly submits in the bedroom (my kind of girl), she takes no prisoners in the courtroom, and she knows that she has to be better than the boys if she wants to make it in the legal world. She totally rocks.

While Stanton is a beast in the bedroom and the courtroom he is a complete moron when it comes to his love life. Shocking. As many lawyers do, he compartmentalized his life and that is his greatest mistake. What kind of idiot takes his fuck buddy with him to try to win back the love of the mother of his child? STANTON. Perhaps my husband is right…we lawyers lack common sense sometimes. LE SIGH.

There are serious fireworks every time that Sofia and Stanton get into the same room. And this invisible tension ratchets up as soon as they cross the Mississippi line. As Stanton tries to figure out how to win Jenny back, Sofia can’t help her feelings that seem to grow now that she’s met his family. Stanton may think he has it all under control, but he is SO VERY WRONG. Thankfully, there’s not too much drama drama in the love triangle department. I get antsy over that.

Note: his daughter is also the best. I love when they put precocious kids in these books. This kid is wise beyond her years and hilariously on point. I cracked up laughing at her reaction in certain scenes. She’s fantastic.

There’s humor, hot demanding sex, lots of legal puns (MY FAVORITE) and warm emotion to warm your veins. Definitely a fun read!
