Book Summary:

It’s been four years since Armando Torres disappeared. He was DEA agent Beth Thomson’s best undercover recruit – and the best lover she ever had.

In the time since he left, she has forced herself to move on. So when news reaches her that Torres is dead, she isn’t expecting the wave of emotions that overwhelm her. It’s a gang hit, and there isn’t much of a body left to identify. But when she visits the morgue, her horror soon turns to disbelief at what she finds.

With notorious gang leader El Escorpion still evading capture, her mother’s health deteriorating, and her daughter starting school – can Beth recreate the passion from her past, even when her whole world is changing?

Longer Review:

AHHH! This second installment to the Firing Line trilogy was crazy. Beth and Torres are back in an intense story of betrayal, danger and reconnection. Torres may have been gone for four years, but it’s not for the reasons that you think. When he reappears, Beth’s reaction is less than loving – even though it’s clear she’s still incredibly in love with him.

Beth makes a few questionable choices in this book causing me to curse her out repeatedly. I was pretty thankful that she felt guilty for some of her actions because I sure as fuck was throwing shade from the other side of my kindle screen. Torres should have been more pissed at her – but he wasn’t, which just goes to show HOW AMAZING HE IS.

For all of her bad decisions, Beth’s decision to adopt Ally was the best one that she’s ever made. She’s such a little sweetheart and her appearance in this story was welcomed and heartwarming.

This book packs serious intensity – there’s a lot of pinging back and forth for Beth and Torres, leading to a rediscovery of who each other are now that four years have passed. A lot has changed, but the fact that they both deeply love each other hasn’t. I was fully in support of their reconnection and rediscovery. YES. SO HOT. mmmhmmmm.

Unfortunately, we sometimes hurt the ones we love. On purpose. Fuck. And other times, even when it’s accidental, the mistakes are life changing. Speaking of, we end with some serious drama for which Torres’ may be partially to blame. I’m pretty sure that’s going to blow up in his face. I really loved the cliffhanger and I’m holding on tight to find out how this all ends – Book 3 now, please!
