Review:

Sweet and simple, this romance gives you a straightforward story of refound love. Mitch & Emily were in love – but were also 18. Being as how I’ve made my own fair share of questionable life choices at that age, it’s no surprise that when Emily is forced to choose between her family and Mitch, she chooses the safety of her family. Mitch makes his own choices and leaves the small town full of gossips. Mitch unilaterally decides that 15 years is enough and he comes back to claim Emily. I sort of hated that part about the book. Because Mitch decides that it’s time, so it’s time. ok then. I wasn’t living a life or anything. STUBBORN MAN.

However, he also doesn’t try to force the reconnection down her throat, which I greatly appreciated. He tries the friend thing first and tries to get her attention in small ways. Every moment to Emily is a combination of a slap to the face and a loving touch. She hasn’t forgiven Mitch for leaving all those years ago (can’t blame her) but she also doesn’t take responsibility for her own role in the failed fling-that-could-have-been-more.

Overall, it’s a sweet story with not a lot of drama. Emily’s a little high strung and analyzes things way too much, but if you’re looking for a nice small-town love story, this book should make you smile.  – Three Stars –

Excerpt:

“Your turn to drive.”  He reached for her hand and pulled her from the car.

“But I don’t have my license with me or insurance or anything.”

“So we won’t get stopped.”  He walked her around to the driver’s side and waited as she got in.  He returned to the car and helped her set the seat and mirrors.  “The traffic’s light, and the freeway is smooth.”

Emily stared at him a minute.  Then she nodded, started the car, and pulled out into the road.  She drove cautiously at first, keeping well below the speed limit, and staying on the right side of the road.  She didn’t pass anyone, and for a while, Mitch thought it was going to stay that way.  And then, a large eighteen-wheeler drove around them.  He saw her shoulders stiffen.  She glanced at him, and he gave her an encouraging smile.

She made a face, pulled the car into the left lane, and hit the accelerator.  Soon they were flying down the highway.  Emily threw her head back and laughed.  Mitch had never seen her look more beautiful.
