As a photographer for the New York Post, Kari Martin was used to seeing heartache and scandal up close. But one night at the club… her whole world changed.

Heartbroken and willing to call off her wedding, she decides a change is in order and moves from NYC to a small town in Maine, where the average age of the residents there is sixty (or thereabouts). She works to fit in perfectly, and tries like hell not to let anyone find out just how very jaded she’s recently become over the lie called love.

Jake Isaac left Texas quite a few years ago; his heart torn from his chest, and his mind set on being a bachelor forever. Maine would welcome him, give him land to explore and a community to belong to. Getting a job as the coach of the local junior high and serving on the fire department kept him busy — and labeled him a hometown hero — but the truth of his damaged heart was forever hidden.

No one would ever know just how jaded he was about love. That is… until he meets Kari.

 Review:

Happy to settle, Kate is ready to get married to Frank. She thinks it’s what she’s supposed to do. I mean, that’s what you do after dating someone for four years…right? So there she is – out at a club for her bachelorette party, when the decision is made for her. Heartbroken over her new knowledge about Frank, she calls off the wedding and decides to move to Maine with her besties.

I felt a little like she was running away from her problems, but in all reality, I can’t say that I wouldn’t do the same thing. Sometimes it helps to get over things when mortification isn’t around every single corner. Frank’s a royal asshat and zero tears were shed for him.

When she gets to Maine she keeps running into Jake. Like, literally running into him. I know the town is small but the two of them have some invisible cord that’s wrapped between them that seems to pull them to the same place. Jake fights the connection just as much as Kate…at first. I loved that man. He’s well developed in both the character sense and the other sense IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. When the two of them finally sit down to talk to one another they’re super open about everything. No lies, no hiding, all truths. Of course, the truth can’t always stop miscommunication….#justsayin.

This is a sweet, quick & heartwarming story. Personally, I’d like there to be MORE of the delicious sex scenes for which I was counting down the moments, but I’m greedy. Regardless, I’m looking forward to see what Ali comes up with next!
